Oh, damn! Not Wilko! I guess today will be a day to pull out all my Dr. Feelgood albums and blast them in his memory. Thank you Wilko, you were a treasure.

Exciting news for me at least! Playing nyc in April 2023. They were one of my favorites seen them probably 10 times. They haven’t played since 2013 so I am beyond thrilled!
Is it a one-off show, or are they touring, do you know?

We finished the 1st season of White Lotus, last night --- it kind of petered out the last few episodes. Must admit, I am glad it was only 6 episodes. Could not get attached to any of the characters.
Too bad this didn't stay as intriguing as that first season. It sounded compelling!

Caveat: I'm a huge Flaming Lips fan. It's definitely worth watching. Interesting how they put the whole thing together. The band sounds fantastic in the music footage especially "Feeling Youself Disintegrate". I've always liked that song but it's become epic live. The guitar solo is 1 of my favorites. Steven Drodz is an amazing musician.
I haven't had the chance yet to see them live, but the reports of their live shows have always sounded so fun!

Washington turned out OK especially considering the huge money the GOP dumped into the campaign. Fingers crossed for the rest of the country. I can't believe that Herschel Walker has run as high as he has.
You and me both!

This election night is bringing all of the joy and terror of 2016. I feel sick but I want to check the news. How are you faring in your location?
It's 11:20 PST on election day, and it seems to be a very mixed bag. At least Fetterman appears to be winning.
Please, can we get some humanity back into politics, rather than pure thuggery?

So damned sad. Fuck cancer.

We are living in insane times, and we all know it. I have voted my conscience and I hope the rest of you have too, by now. Wilco fans tend to be socially & politically involved so you've likely voted by now if your state allows it.
How are we all handling the existential dread of this election? I'm pretty sure it's not just me. These are such dangerous times. But like Beto said, "We've got to try". The world is turning fascist and monopolistic around us and it feels overwhelming but...we've GOT to try to resist. Fascism is not what our founding fathers were after. In fact, these were exactly the sort of monsters they were trying to prevent.
I hope November 8th will bring good news. If you haven't already, please, please vote. It does matter.

I have yet to make it to Washington state, but someday I'll look you both up and you can buy me a beer too.

What a sad loss. He was brilliant. Made me laugh so hard at his "Beverley Leslie" character on Will & Grace. 😢

This set of midterms matters like few others, and I'm trying to apply my scant funds where they will matter. I just donated a small amount to Val Demings because Marco Rubio is a little useless dweeb who needs to be gone.
Who are you supporting? It's hard to know who to fund right now. I know it's the same for us all. Confusing as hell. I hope we have a reassuring November 8th (although I don't think we'll know results fully before about November 14th...)
Anyway, I'm just curious to know where VC members are throwing their weight.

Justin Sullivan of Night Shop last night. He never disappoints. A fast, fun, fabulous evening. He just gets better! SO good. A crack backing band, too. A tiny club (Gold Diggers, L.A.) full of people who were totally digging it.
Pardon the pathetic photo; for some reason the club saw no need for front lighting on the acts!

Dang I forget to post Kurt Vile Friday night at a nice small PA club. Played two acoustic solo John Prine tunes and finished with "Punks in the Beerlight". Great set by the band in a crowded space. Even snagged a setlist!
Ahhh that sounds like a fun night!

Katie's twin sister, Allison, fronted the band Swearin' -- also worth checking out if you're a fan of Waxahatchee.
Allison is a sweetheart & so talented! She's an L.A. local so I see her frequently playing in L.A. bands. Did you know she & Katie are "mirror twins", where their bodies are mirrors of each other, reversed compared to each other? I understand body organs can even be on the "wrong side" of a mirror twin's body. It's pretty rare. Google it!

I'm a big fan of the talented Katie Crutchfield, who performs as Waxahatchee. What a powerful voice, both literally and figuratively. The songs she writes are resonant gems, the lyrics linger.
Anyway, as much as I enjoy Katie's voice, I'm also a big fan of L.A.'s own Jess Williamson, a voice as mesmerizing as Katie's own, but very different. When Katie and Jess met and joined forces, I perked up my ears. Today I got my just-released copy of Katie & Jess's new album as Plains, called "I Walked with You a Ways". I'm still getting to know this music but already there are standout songs. These two voices, and attitudes, blended makes for a really intriguing album.
The Wilco connection? (Isn't there always one?😄) That capable, exactly-right, intuitive drumming? Courtesy of Mr. Spencer Tweedy!
I'm really liking this. And look how gorgeous this vinyl is!

So nice to see you Tweedling! How's life?
Many brilliant people have been unappreciated, or hugely underappreciated, in their own lifetimes. Jay was always loved and admired, but maybe it takes time and perspective to fully appreciate all he brought to his times. That, and a beautiful movie that captured the spirit of the man.
I wish he could have lived so we all could have heard the next music in his head.

Love the close-ups of Nels' long, elegant fingers at work. He makes it look so effortlessly easy.

I'm so very grateful for the music and the friendships that brought me here and kept me here, all these years. You're a great bunch of people to share life with. I like "coming home, Via Chicago".
Thanks to all of you, for all you bring to this great human mashup. Have a glorious feast and appreciate the people you are lucky enough to feast with!
