  1. Congrats!  I also was offered standing pit for Toyota Park, but my wife and I are too old for that these days.  Turned them down and got row 6 of the first seated section.  Sounds perfect.

Sounds like you got a great location, too! Yeah, I work retail, so I'm kinda used to standing a lot, anyway. This'll be like a normal work day for me,

  2. I have a copy of this book. I pre-ordered it via Amazon months ago, and even though it isn't supposed to come out until the end of March, they shipped to me last week, for some reason. I'd figure I'd buy it b/c I figured Jay would probably have some interesting stories to tell and that he's probably a much better writer than he is a talker. I read it all the way through, and i enjoyed it, for the most part As for Jeff, he mentions the 'girlfrend incident' again as well as the fight in their Bellville apartment that was documented in the Kot book. He also briefly talks about the final meeting between himself and the rest of UT. He says that while it was indeed an awkward experience for him, he claims that he shook Jeff's hand and told him "good luck." He notes that this was never documented elsewhere. Overall, he doesn't dwell on UT or Jeff that much, but it seems clear that the way he was portrayed in the Kot book still bothers him.

  3. While I've liked elements, many for that matter since Wide String Tremolo and up through all the solo records, projects, etc.......none have matched the sheer brilliance of HonkyTonk. The songs, thematically, parts played, vibe, the "swing" factor, sequence....all of it. This isn't a knee-jerk reaction either. I've been playing it for a week now. It's Jay's best record in over 12-13 years. Full Stop.

It's hard to argue with anything from that statement. I think it ranks up there with Jay's best work. I've been playing it constantly since it leaked, and i will be buying a copy first thing tomorrow(I didn't today only b/c of the snowy weather outside). The "Bakersfield sound," his voice is just made for. The best stuff he's put out the past decade, in my opinion, are the Gob Iron record, The Kerouac record with Ben Gibbard, and the New Multitudes project. He's had some great moments with Son Volt, but Honkey Tonk, start to finish, tops everything except Trace. It might even compete with Trace for my favorite SV record(so far). It's great!

  5. Hey, just thought I'd give all of you and early heads up. The daily deals for www.popmarket.com are listed up on their website, and tomorrow's(Wedensday's) deal is listed as "Billy Bragg & Wilco, so i assume it'll the new box set. I check the daily deals there every day, and i can say from my experience that chances are that the price on it will be pretty darn good(usually at least cheaper than on amazon) but we don't know until they put it up tomorrow morning. Sometimes, it's up to 50% off the list price, they don't collect tax(at least not here in IL, it might be different in other states) and if you type in the code FACEBOOK10 at checkout, you get an additional 10% off! Just thought I'd post that here, for those of you that are still looking to buy the set, but only at a good, less expensive price. It'll only be on for 24 hours once it's on! Tomorrow, I'll post a direct link here when they post it.

  6. I still don't have the finished product. Can someone please confirm 1/ who sings Jaicell Blues 2/ when Jolly Banker was recorded ?

1.Billy Bragg sings Jailcell Blues(Wilco on backing instruments), and 2.This is the same version of Jolly Banker that was recorded in 2009 and released through Wilcoworld. It's the only track included that wasn't recorded during the original sessions.

  7. I haven't been this sad about a musician's death since Alex Chilton died. One of the great voices in music, ever. Of course, he did much more than just sing, but the voice is what instantly grabbed my attention when i heard "Music From Big Pink" for the first time. They'll never be another like him.

I just noticed that on CNN's website, they are debating the lyrics to "The Weight"(does he say "Annie" or "Fanny" and it mentions the Wilco/Mavis/Nick Lowe version performed at the Civic Opera House last year. It even posted a direct link to Wilcoworld from within the article, so readers can listen to the track to hear how Mavis sung that line! I thought that was kinda funny. The link to the article is below.
