  1. :lol Alissa, then a kindergartener, warbled that song when new as, "Tall buildings shake, horses escape, singing sad sad songs". I'll never be able to hear Jesus Etc without an image of sad, frightened horses bolting out of a building flitting briefly through my brain.

Haha. Little Kids are sometimes the best lyricists I've ever heard.

  2. I went to Reckless Records on N. Broadway in Chicago. They didn't have the Ashes dvd, but i did buy the Dylan and Whiskeytown 7, and a couple of other cds, then i went down to the Reckless location in the Loop. They did have the DVD, so i bought it. Then, on my way home i stopped in the Borders at Oak Park to browse some books. I had no idea they were selling most of their cds and DVDS for 50% off! So i bought 3 of the Replacements reissues(Hootenanny, Sorry Ma I Forgot To Take Out The Trash, & Stink) as well as the Tom Waits Brawlers, Bawlers, & Bastards compilation for all for 50% off! A good day, indeed!

  3. I just had a thought: Does everybody get the same full concert to download? I'm sorry if this has been discussed already, but I'm being lazy and I'm not looking through the threads. I want to go to bed soon so i can hit the record stores downtown first thing tomorrow. I can't wait to see this!

  4. Heh, funny story. I guess my laptop has a built in microphone. While i thought I was recording the show, I was recording my room.

The first clue was when I went back to listen and all I heard was somebody eating chips.

    :lol

I had a similar problem when i tried to record the show tonight. My laptop's built-in mic ruined my recording. I need to figure out how to get my pc to record only the sounds being made by the computer, and not any external noises.

If anybody managed to get the recording without those noises, i'd like to hear it.

  5. thanks for posting the vids! they're quite lovely.

btw, i thought Fake Plastic Trees is a Radiohead song. im confused. i don't wanna listen to it as im now one of those people who are depraving themselves of new Wilco until the record comes out.

You are correct. Fake Plastic Trees is a Radiohead song. Jeff played it at the "7 Worlds Collide" shows not too long ago, with 2 members of Radiohead, and it's been played at almost every solo show this year since then. It's a terrific version! I'm a big Radiohead fan too, so one can only imagine how i felt when i first heard him play this.

  6. This was my first JT show at the Vic and I had a blast. Great show, fun crowd, EXCEPT all the junior film-makers with their most annoying cheap digital cameras and cell phones shooting video. I found this most annoying and find it even more annoying to see this behavior being rewarded here on VC. I sat behind an idiot who shot several songs wth his camera in video mode.

Nothing like paying $100 for a seat, waiting for 2 hours in freezing temps, only to have an obstructed view seat. The obstruction : the LCD on the camera belonging to the hipster dufus sitting in front of you.

I'm sorry he ruined your night. Where were you sitting? I, for the record, was in the balcony and i was conscious of obstructing someone else's view, and i made sure i held my camera directly in front of my body and made sure to not stand up when people were sitting down, except for standing ovations, etc, to prevent such a thing from happening.

  7. Terrific show! Lots of great song choices. I was sitting in the first row in the balcony, and i had my digital camera and caught some videos with it, which i will post somewhere either today or tomorrow. My battery unfortunately ran out of juice somewhere in the middle of Casino Queen. I was the one who requested Fake Plastic Trees, and i wanted capture that...oh well. :)

*Admin note: Please do not post videotapes as the band doesn't allow videotaping.

One of my favorite funny moments from the show which i dont think has been discussed yet, is that at one point, Jeff started talking about annoying his wife by singing his songs in a silly voice, using nonsensical lyrics, something like "cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha-cha." He kept coming back to that during the show. I recall him doing that during the solo for Hummingbird and a couple other songs.

Thanks to the Tweedys for all you do and for making nights like this possible!

Frank Marshall Davis was his mentor when he was a child/teenager--and has been dead since 1987. That's part of his inner circle?

Robert Malley is a mid-east expert and was on the Camp David negotiating team. He was also an advisor to President Clinton and has no formal role in the Obama campaign. He has the audacity to *meet* with Hamas? What's wrong with simply meeting with them?

Just to clear this up: Obama has said that he supports meeting with world leaders without preconditions, some of whom may be our enemies(ex. Iran), but he has also stated that he has no intention of meeting with Hamas, since it is considered an official terrorist organization.

  9. Perfect! Thanks for the help, Kimcatch! That's pretty much what i needed, visuals included. Thanks as well for the info on Google maps. I didn't know about that. That'll come on handy in the future. Hopefully, I'll be able to thank you in person at the show!

It would be the Irving Park brown line stop, if that weren't closed for renovations. So... take the brown line (Kimball) and get off at the Addison stop. Make a left (east) out of the station and Lincoln Ave is pretty much right there -- it's runs on a diagonal to the grid. Make a left and go up Lincoln a couple blocks. You'll see a Trader Joes and CB2, that's how you know you're going in the right direction. Martyr's is just about a block past that.

If you look at Google maps, it now includes CTA stops.

  10. I plan on going to see the show at Martyr's tonight. I'll be using public transportation, but me being from the suburbs, I not sure exactly how to get there. I have the correct address, and i have a good idea of how to get there, but i was wondering if anyone here knows if there is an El stop and a CTA stop right outside the venue. I haven't been able to determine that by looking at the map. Does anyone know where the nearest stop is?
