I believe I read somewhere that Jay Bennett wrote/co-wrote a good deal of this song (or at the very least is responsible for the instruments). Much like My Darling, which is a Jay's song.
-
I don't think the songs are very much like On The Beach at all. On The Beach was recorded after Tonight's The Night (I believe), when Neil was still in his depressed phase. Its a very stoned, sparse, sad work... I don't really see any comparisons with the new Wilco songs.

i never got the whole "pre-order" thing. pre-order it and get it 4 days after its released or go out and buy it the day it comes out? seems like a no brainer...
-
The noise at the end is Jay slamming the piano lid down. You then hear him say "That's it! That's the take!"
-
how can you say there is absolutely no reason for the song to be included? it fits 100% with the mood/feel/tone/etc of the album. it is one of the very best songs to come out of those sessions. just because he didn't write the lyrics doesn't mean they can't include it. it isn't "cheating" if the album is suppose to have Woody Guthrie lyrics and one song is traditional. to say that there is no reason to include it is absolutely ridiculous.
-
This song should have been on Mermaid. Who cares if Woody didn't write the lyrics? He related to them enogh to jot them down when he heard them, and plus, it fits with the whole feel and theme of the albums.

I bought this Ragged Glory shirt... it looks like an official design, but it may be a reproduction, no? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A%3AIT&rd=1
-
is there a way to tell which shirts on ebay are official/good quality? such as this one http://cgi.ebay.com/NEIL-YOUNG-T-SHIRT-SZ-...1QQcmdZViewItem
-
I also got a CSNY shirt from the tour, the "Vintage Summer of Love" one. It'd be cool to find a Tonight's The Night shirt.
-
i'm looking for a site/store that has some Neil Young shirts. his official store has a lot, but mainly tour shirts from a few years ago. anybody know of any stores?

So it looks like the new Dylan finally leaked...

the funniest part is that the guy writes a 10 page rant about how much worse it is than the 2 previous albums, then at the end completely reverses everything he just said and says that it is his 2nd favorite album of the year. -
that's not what i said at all. i gave my opinion on what i thought should have been done. i then said that since i do not know the band personally, i can't say wether or not what i thought should have been WAS actually done or not.
-
looks like that shut him up.
-
what the hell are you talking about?
-
it is his best album to date. i felt like the poster above me when i first got it. but it grows on you, and then it will hit you that it is one of the best albums of the 2000s.

Jay co-wrote a lot of the songs on YHF. As for the keyboards, I agree sometimes he got carried away, but like Stirratt said, Summerteeth was overdone but in a beautiful way. To be honest I think it is kind of ridiculous that Jay was fired. If they had a problem with him taking on too many roles, they should have just talked to him and settle it. It just seems to me like a relationship of about 8 years ended for a dumb reason. Of course I know nothing that happened before his departure... maybe they did talk to him.

Bob Egan was really cool. I think the main reason the let him go was because he mainly played pedal and lap steel, which the band soon outgrew. It would have been really cool to have him stay with the band, maybe playing additional instruments, but still adding a touch of the old days with the pedal steel/lap steel/banjo/etc.

the album came out in 1993. it's self titled, and their only album i believe. i think the band was a rotating cast of musicians, with leroy leading on guitar and vocals. there are a few copies on ebay, which is where i got mine.

i really like it. some of it is great right off the bat, some feel like growers. the album has a good deal of blues, much like Love and Theft. there are also jazzy ballads, similar to Moonlight. the tracks do seem a bit long with an average time of about 4 minutes. -
you must be joking. jay bennett is responsible for bringing the keyboards into Wilco's sound, as well as co-writing many of their greatest songs. not to mention the role he played as multi-instrumentalist and producer. i am really sick of people bashing jay. someone hear once said that when anybody bashes jay, all's you have to do is mention that he co-wrote a large portion of Jesus, Etc. i bet that'll shut you all up.

its hard to say what i would like because i really am completely new to the genre. like i said, Tom Waits is one of my favorite artists, and i've been exposed to some jazz influence via his earlier albums. also, i guess, Nels Cline has some deep jazz knowledge. stuff like that. i guess i should just get into the most obvious artists, the ones people are talking about when they say "jazz".
-
I would love to get into jazz, but I have no idea where to start. I love Tom Waits, and his music has jazz influences... any suggestions?

thanks!

I'd like one.
