  1. Yeah. Of course the Constitution is a little more specific about guns than abortion.
  2. You could make that type of argument for anything that gets outlawed.
  3. That would be more in accordance with the Constitution.
  4. This is why pro-lifers and pro-choicers can't find common ground. If you view the fetus as a person with the right to life, then no situation that involves killing it can be preferable to letting it live (assuming the mother's life isn't threatened).
  5. So even when the baby is viable, the mother still has the right to kill it?
  6. Unless you believe the baby has rights.
  7. The problem is that the bigger the government gets, the bigger its role in telling us how to live our lives. Whether it be how much of our income we get to keep, what drugs we can and cannot do, or how we plan our retirement, the government keeps assuming a larger role. My problem is not so much with whether the guy in charge is religious but rather the fact that he gets so much power.
  8. You forgot to tell me to check out Sam Harris.
  9. An atheist (let's call him "Alan") complains about Christians forcing their religion down his throat and yet continues to force his atheism down their throats by being condescending (religion was invented by ignorant cavemen, believe whatever fairytale you want, etc.) and advertising for his favorite atheist preacher Sam Harris. Fair enough. I just thought that was your view given the fact that you were saying they could just change their position.
  10. The heroin was just an example of a rule that doesn't change. Sure, churches reform, but some things don't get changed. I think the problem is that you see them as just making arbitrary rules that they can change whenever they want. That may or may not be true, but they believe those are God's rules. So are the members of the Church.
  11. I'm all about silliness. Well, I'd hate for people to be comforted! I guess if the alternative to religion is to be a condescending dick to people, then religion isn't all that bad. I'm kind of confused about your stance on imposing beliefs on others, though. You seem to be doing a lot of it for someone opposed to it.
  12. If someone's going to ignore one teaching and follow another, I would think they'd choose the lesser evil. It doesn't seem logical to not use contraception for religious reasons but then to have no problem having an abortion. Exactly. And just because they don't agree with the Church doesn't mean that the Church should change its position. Yeah, but some rules never change. You wouldn't tell your kids that they can shoot up heroin when they turn 18. You don't mind people having religious beliefs as long as they don't think their religion is the best, but if they are religious th
  13. I'm full of odd logic. You brought up the evolution thing after quoting someone saying that lack of education and poverty go hand in hand, so I thought you were suggesting something like that. If people listened to what the Church was teaching, the spread of HIV would be slowed.
  14. Yeah, opposition to the killing of fetuses is a scary thing. I'm pretty sure that the people listening to the "religious extremists" and not using contraception aren't the same ones who get abortions. If they think condoms and birth control pills are wrong, they probably aren't huge fans of abortion either. But you are right about poor sex ed. A lot of people don't seem to realize that sex is related to reproduction. It turns out that shooting sperm towards an egg can sometimes lead to pregnancy. I'm not at all for teaching creationsim instead of evolution, but it seems unlikely th
  15. Because I have a hard time believing most Americans think of abortion as a good thing. I don't think most Christians (Catholics excluded) are opposed to birth control and other services offered by PP. If "they" are trying to get rid of anything, it's the abortions, and I don't see how that's such a horrible thing.
  16. I just thought it was funny that abortion was included in the list of things we take for granted that "they" are trying to take away.
  17. Have you tried Chantix? You're supposed to be able to take it, just smoke like normal, and you'll gradually quit because it makes cigarettes taste bad.
  18. I think it's one of the better songs on AM.
