That's awesome. Seriously.

This is a good point. If they lose Sabathia, they basically get to replace the prospect with a high draft pick. Of course it's not a given that the prospect they get will be as good as they one they gave up, but I'm assuming that they think they can get someone as good.

I say that it's worth it for the Brewers if they can win it all this year or if they can re-sign him to a long term deal. I'm assuming they're willing to put up the money to re-sign him because I doubt they really think that he's the only thing they needed to put them over the top this season. If they do re-sign him, then they'll have to be a favorite over the next few years with their young talent developing rapidly. Yeah, it's always a risk to give up your top prospect, but Sabathia is just about to be 28 -- 5 years of one of the best pitchers in the game in his prime is probably worth

Daisuke's WHIP this year, though a bit high, is actually really close to last year's, while his ERA is substantially better this year (more than a full run). His K/BB isn't great this year, which means he may be getting a bit lucky, but if I were a Red Sox fan I'd be happy with him.

Tigers and Mariners played a pretty crazy 15 inning game today. The Tigers scored the winning run off of Jamie Burke, who moved to the mound after being the M's catcher for the previous 5 innings. I sort of feel bad for Nate Roberston getting a no decision. That must have been one of the best starts of his career (9 innings, 1 run, 4 hits, though just one K -- 2 BB but both were intentional).

I'm disappointed but not at all surprised to see only one Tiger on the team this year, although I think that Francona should give serious consideration to Marcus Thames to take Papi's roster spot.
-
Yeah, Varitek is having a pretty bad year -- that pick is pretty hard to justify, even when allowing for the team's manager to pick a few more of his own guys than really deserve it. If there had to be a third catcher on the roster, it probably should have been Pierzynski or maybe Shoppach. At 3B, I'd take Lowell or Huff over Crede.

I love Sonic Youth so much. Did they play "Peace Attack". I hope it was included in their 7/4 set.

United States of America birthday thread
MrRain422 replied to bjorn_skurj's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
America has a lot to be proud of, but our recent foreign policy definately does not fall under that umbrella. I am definately proud of much of the things that come from this country, but at this point in history it can be bittersweet at best. Happy Birthday, America. Here's to hoping that the future is better than the present, and that we will finally achieve our nation's promise in the near future. -
Happy birthday, buddy.

He is worse than average with the homerism. DJ is not as bad as Hawk, but Steve Stone would be a huge upgrade.

The Sox haven't played their best against them, but the Rays really are that good. They're steamrolling lots of teams, not just the Red Sox.
-
Yeah, but by then the Rays vs. Orioles rivalry that will dominate the next decade should be heating up.
-
Agreed. It's always fun when new teams get into the mix, and no team has been in the mix less than the (Devil) Rays. The fact that there's all this tension with Boston makes it even more exciting. I hope they can keep it up. I'd much rather see Boston vs. Tampa on TV 45 times per season for a couple of seasons instead of Boston vs. New York.
-
Pretty sure the Red Sox don't own that song. I don't know if its really premature for Tampa fans (all 3 of them) to celebrate anyway. Sure, they haven't even made the playoffs yet, but they've already accomplished a whole lot more this year than they have in the previous 10. I can't fault the Rays and their fans for being excited.

Nah. And I don't think you think so either, you just wanted to correct my spelling error. -

I think the things that he actually has done are horrifying enough without having to resort to hyperboly. -
I fault everyone that voted for the war, Democrats included. That being said, a little bit more fault has to lie with those that actually proposed and made the case for war to Congress and who then went on to wage the war so poorly. All other things being equal, I'm happy to support the ouster of any person of either party who voted for the war.
