  1. I have all the faith in the world in Joe Dumars, but this signing leaves me baffled as well. I mean he's only 26, but he's also Kwame Brown. He's just young enough to still have a chance to out fail Nazr Mohammed.
  2. Right, but that's also the reason that the Media Love Affair With Obama is a myth. And it certainly doesn't explain the CBS thing. I can fully relate to your reluctance to fully buy in to any of the narratives about either candidates positives or negatives. It's absolutely true that all politicians manipulate the media to a certain degree. But that doesn't mean that the truth lies directly in the middle in every single instance. Sometimes one side truly is more dishonest than the other (even if the other side isn't 100% honest). Sometimes one side truly is less competent and less educat
  3. And everyone's guy is treated unfairly sometimes.
  4. I agree that it's the media's job to be hard on the candidates. I think there actually are quite a few things that the media should be much harder on Obama about. They tend to focus on other things though. I think all of the coverage of both candidates, both positive and negative, have been focused mostly on the wrong things. But it seems obvious to me that the media has let a lot of McCain's gaffes go with a lot less scrutiny than they do Obama's much less egregious ones, and that's not even considering the suspicious manipulation with Katie Couric by the CBS News producers.

  6. Official word on Maine is shoulder stiffness.
  7. Other current players who the Reds have not won with: Everybody. I'm just sayin'. Dunn has been the best player on that team for pretty much his whole career (though maybe this year that should not include pitchers). A lot of the hatred of him is based solely on the fact that he is shitty in one stat category that means almost nothing.
  8. When we were in Detroit, we did manage to get some pictures of the partially demolished Tiger Stadium after we left Comerica Park (the north wall is completely gone -- the rest still intact for now). Forgot to bring the camera to the game so the pictures are on a disposable that we bought down there, but I'll post some pics here once we develop it.
  9. I'd take him on the Tigers without a second thought. I was in Detroit over the weekend for a family thing and caught White Sox @ Tigers yesterday before hitting the road and heading home. It was awesome. Best seats I've had there in several years.
  10. And random drug testing. It is a proud day in Detroit. Incidentally, I'm headed there for the weekend. Hopefully I don't get assaulted by the mayor.
  11. I feel as though the main difference is that the people who are frightening people about global warming, correct or not, believe that what they are saying is true, and are pushing policies that would logically address those issues. The people who have exploited the fear of terrorism have done so in intentionally deceptive ways, and in order to impose an extreme economic ideology in the middle east which does not even theoretically address the causes of terrorism. I just don't see this alternative agenda in the case of the global warming crowd.
  12. Who said that K-Rod isn't a good pitcher? I think everyone acknowledged that he's having an excellent season -- some of us have just disputed whether his save total is a good way of measuring it. Let's just look at a couple of American League relievers from 2007: Joe Borowski: 65 2/3 IP, 5.07 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 58/17 K/BB, 45 SV Hideki Okajima: 69 IP, 2.22 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 63/17 K/BB, 5 SV Which of these two guys helped his team more?
  13. I think there probably aren't enough teams who do the 'closer by committee' thing to be able reach a real conclusion, but I would guess that it's probably roughly equal in relation to the quality of the team. I really just stopped by here, though, to mention how awesome Armando Galarraga is.
  14. Ichiro has spent his whole MLB career pretending not to speak English very well so that he could avoid the media, but rumor has it that he speaks English very well. Wouldn't surprise me if Manny has done some of the same thing.
  15. You add it up, it brings you down.
  16. Yeah, I only saw him do a few intros this year. Goose Island and Boost were far more heavily advertised than Pitchfork. I got pretty tired of seeing things with the 312unes tag.
  17. Yeah, Watt speaks his own sort of dialect sometimes. It's part of why I love him. Probably pretty unintelligable for non-native English speakers though. It's hard enough for a lot of people who are native speakers.
  18. The Tigers may score 1000 runs yet this year. Unfortunately, they will all be tonight. Currently 19-0.
  19. I've seen Fleet Foxes twice before without the long pauses. There was feedback throughout, so I think they were maybe trying to work out some sound problems.
  20. Perhaps going to Europe is pointless electorally, but if he wins, it will help if he's already started working on those relationships. Will make the beginning of the transition a little smoother.
  21. Yeah, it's pouring right now here in Logan Square. Hopefully it will stop soon because I'm gonna head out in just a bit. Sucks.
