  1. What exactly is a mystery about him? He wrote a very candid book about his life, he's been very open about everything. If there's anything you want to know about him, it's pretty much all out in the open. Let's look at who McCain associates himself with. He courted crazy fuck religious folk way worse than anyone associated with Obama. His entire inner circle are major lobbyists, and he was implicated in one of the worst lobbyist scandals in Congressional history. And let's not forget about his embrace of the policies of noted war criminal George W. Bush. Anyone who gets involved in
  2. Where can I get a socialist certificate? Seriously though, he's nowhere near being a socialist. I sort of wish he was.
  3. She me the best that you got and I'll show you one better Show me your reddest rose and I'll show you one redder Tell me a dirty joke and I'll laugh it off lightly If I tell you a dirty joke, you might not like me Everyone gets to make one big mistake And if you're waiting on me, well, I guess you're gonna have to wait Timing is everything if you've got nothing but time And a lie don't mean nothing if nobody knows when you're lying So lie when you do, lie when you don't, lie when you didn't Lie til you lie lie lie Lie there wondering if anyone else is lying Everyone gets to make one big
  4. If those two states had stayed within the rules, their primaries would have been on Feb. 5th at the earliest (probably right on that date since they were trying to make it as early as possible). His run of 11 states didn't start until Feb. 9th. If they had put them right in the middle of that run, between Feb. 9th and Feb. 19th then I guess it could have made some sort of impact, but if it had ended up right on Feb. 5th, then they would have just been two larger states amongst the many states that voted that day, and which split pretty evenly between the candidates. Still very important, no
  5. Smarmy elitist jerk makes a good point that even the Dems in the Florida legislature did not vote against the move, but I'm not really sure what the Dems who were opposed to it could have done to prevent it. It is the legislature who set the date for the primary.
  6. I don't know if this is necessarily true though. Florida would probably have gone to Clinton anyway, but there are too many factors at play in Michigan that make it impossible to know how that primary would have gone. I know several people in Michigan who voted in the Republican primary or didn't vote in primaries at all because they were told that their vote would not count (this is probably true in Florida too). It's also impossible to know how many of the Uncommitted votes would have gone to Obama were his name on the ballot, or how many of those Uncommited voters or Clinton voters might
  7. I'm really having a hard time picking out who I think would be the best Veep candidate for Obama. Hillary certainly brings a lot of supporters with her, but she also brings a lot of negative baggage, and I think as divisive as the primary campaign was, I just don't see it working. Ideally I'd love to see Chris Dodd as VP, but he makes no sense from a strategic standpoint. Joe Biden would be a very able candidate, however also doesn't have much to offer from a strategic standpoint, and would probably be a better fit as Secretary of State. I love John Edwards, but I think he's a better
  8. She's not going to run as an independent.
  9. It just means that she's not releasing her delegates. She's basically conceding the race but keeping the delegates for leverage in forming the platform.
  10. It would be 2014. The HoF voting is done in January for that summer's inductions, so someone who played their last games in summer of 2008 wouldn't become eligible until later on in 2013, after the voting had already been done. Therefore their first year of eligibility for the HoF would be 2014.
  11. I can see a parallel with the complaints of popular vote vs. electoral vote (although, despite Clinton's shady math, she didn't even win the popular vote). The real issue in 2000 though was that the Supreme Court stepped in inappropriately, and there's really no parallel to that in the current situation.
  12. For those interested, here's some recent pollings of the two candidates as paired with different possible veep choices in a few important states: http://www.surveyusa.com/ I try my best to be civil, but it's really hard for me when people have strong opinions based on little information and with little effort to fill in those information gaps. I can acknowledge that this is a shortcoming of mine, but at the same time I think that's a really big part of how we got into this mess that we're currently in.
  13. Calm down. Anyway, I think if you take the time to read their platforms, you'd see that they're actually different on just about everything else too, but if you're the type of voter who thinks that endless war could possibly be a reasonable policy then it probably won't matter to you anyway.
  14. Never cared for the Braves much but Smoltz has always been one of my favorite players.
  15. Er, no, I didn't make a statement either way regarding which approach was "right". I was just arguing that they were in fact different approaches, in response to you saying that their platforms were the same. Feel free to take your time in determining which approach makes the most sense to you, just don't confuse that with there being no difference between the two.
  16. Several of the groups on the list really peaked in the '80s.
  17. Iraq is the single most important issue of our time though. Seems sort of disingenuous to me to say, "Well, they're really rather similar other than on the most important, biggest issue." Aside from the fact that they aren't really alike on any of the other major issues anyway.
  18. I seriously can't think of one major issue in which Obama and McCain have similar positions. I know a lot of people who think they both do, but I think a lot of them are unaware of the ways in which McCain has changed his positions over the last decade or so.
  19. I think perhaps you're reading too much into my comment. My point is, they really aren't very similar on policy.
  20. That's an awesome story there.
