  2. well, thank you mike, for making me feel old... NP: i'm really sorry that i put this one off for so long... beautiful.
  3. shoot, i get at least 75% of my musical tastes from you VCers...
  4. It's currently sitting at about #4 on my 2006 favorites list.
  5. Colin's voice was an acquired taste for me. The first time I heard him I didn't like it at all. But he's definitely grown on me. I can understand the storytelling and voice putting people off, but I really don't understand all the hate for the Decemberists... If you don't like them, don't listen to them, people! I would have expected a lot of backlash for them signing with Capitol, but the people who are really down on them seem to never have liked them, ever. I guess they're a love 'em or hate 'em band... I love 'em, I'm not ashamed to admit it!
  6. i've been meaning to check out soviet kitsch... i'll def have to do that. now:
  7. it is a great album. she was in town a few weeks back, but due to what is a very long story i didn't go. still kicking myself for it too...
  8. no kidding... i had my first ever decemberists live show the other night, which was cut short because colin was sick. but he still sang himself hoarse and apologized profusely for not being able to do a whole show. what an asshole. and as to mr. ott... it's not the bad review that bothers me, it's the fact that he didn't review the show AT ALL. if you go to a show and genuinely feel that it was sub-par, fine. but it seems like the only thing he said about the actual SHOW was colin's comment about playing in a smaller venue, and the time length between songs. i guess i could never r
  9. very nice album. now: okkervil river - overboard & down ep
  10. he sounded so awful by the end of the night, you couldn't help but be thankful that he went as long as he did! EDIT: by "awful" i do mean his speaking voice. his singing voice really didn't give in completely until the last song, when he made us all sing, anyway...
  11. Caught The Decemberists in Denver tonight. It was my first live Decemberists experience; I was so excited for the show, it really couldn't come soon enough. I spent yesterday listening to the Decemberists catalogue in reverse chronological order. Obsessed? Yeah, just a bit... The opener was a Scottish guy by the name of Alasdair Roberts. I only caught the last few songs, but he was good. The sound was too low, and it was difficult to hear him though... I can't remember the last time that was an issue! The crowd was pretty good for his set, people paid attention for the most part. Leah and
  12. giving this one another go... still pretty meh about it though.
  13. I finally listened to Ys over the weekend (though it's been on the iPod for a while...). Half of you on here had me dreading it and the other half had me excited about it... so I guess I just put it off for a while... Only had one listen, but I really really really enjoyed it.
