I just want to add what a great musical resource this forum has been for me. With the exception of the Eels and the Shins, every artist I listed as a favorite was introduced to me in some way through VC. Also, yankeehotelfox, if you haven't already done so, you should check out the weekly "now playing" threads. Endless music suggestions there...

I think most if not all of these have been mentioned already, but these are my favorite bands (in no particular order): Eels Rilo Kiley Shins Andrew Bird Band Of Horses (even though they've only got one album) Bright Eyes The Hold Steady M. Ward Okkervil River The Elected

It's only been a few listens, but I can certainly see myself liking this one better than Sun, Sun, Sun. But I still love Sun, Sun, Sun...

I rely on my favorites venues' websites... I don't know of any in Florida though. You can always check out the websites/tour schedules of the artists that you like, though that can be time consuming! I'm also on the mailing list for Live Nation (www.livenation.com) though they cater a bit to the more "popular" stuff. If you can find venues in your area that promote the music you like, many of them have mailing lists as well. Good luck!

Actually, I didn't even know they had a first album until just recently. I only yesterday got it from insound and am listening right now. I'll let you know...

It's poppy. It's dreamy. It's kind of like country with an indie edge. All I can really say is that I love it.... But I'm a HUGE Rilo Kiley fan, which probably makes me a bit biased. If I knew how to YSI I'd send it to you....

I voted Dylan. I'm seeing him for the first time ever in a couple of weeks... He's def one of those artists I want to catch while I still can, whether he's in his prime or not. The way I figure, when I'm 50 - I'd rather say that I saw Bob Dylan than say I saw Tom Petty. But that's just me.

Honestly, based on the first song they played I thought they were going to be very "electronic dance" too... and I geared myself up for not liking them (I don't like it either... ) but even starting from such low expectations, I ended up loving them.

Yup, probably 3-4 new songs. The one I remember liking best is as of yet untitled, but apparently slated to be the first song on the next album. They sounded great, really tight. The show was a LOT of fun!

Saw these guys open for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah last night - they were amazing! There were six of them (7 for a couple of songs) and they each played at minimum two different instruments during their set. Most of them played more like 5, 6 or 7 instruments... They had a trombone and lots and lots of percussion, including what we think was some sort of drum machine. They definitely raised the roof. Lots and lots of fun. I'd love to check out their albums, has anyone heard their studio stuff? Architecture In Helsinki
