  1. Wow, someone who has heard of the Baffler. At this stage of the game it is pretty clear that there are NO authentic original counter-culture. None. We are all bound to some sort of invented culture that was created by the mass communication industry.

    Hooray for the Baffler!

I feel sorry for the kids today struggling to find an identity of their own. If they are conscious of the corporate influence hoisted upon popular culture in order to sell products, its gotta be tough and disheartening. Or maybe they just dont care, I dont know.

  2. "Day the World Ended" Roger Corman's 1955 sci fi/nuke exploitation classic.

I saw this a few times when I was a little kid and it always stuck with me.

My frustration with Netflix not having it led me to buy it recently.....and it was worth every penny of the 7 bucks I spent on it.

  3. Louie B's right..........the Baffler blew the cover off the hipster lifestyle/corporate co-opt back in 90 or so with an edition titled "Your Lifestyle Sucks". IIRC, one of its main points was that corporate marketing was going to stealthily co-opt fashion and lifestyles of the hip in order to move product. Maybe they werent the first to say that but boy oh boy were they right. I should dig that one out, its a good read (bunch of U of Chicago folks put it out).

  4. Actually, the bank bailout is working beautifully. It's right on target to break the back of the middle class once and for all, so that the elites can turn the American people into third world citizens. The banks did not miss a thing. Collapse was the goal.

I'm gonna agree with this statement.

  5. That might be my way of saying I never really saw any standout shows.......so I'm including the overall experience of the entire deal ;) ..........you're right about the Louisville show....Louie Louie opened 2nd set. Drove straight back to Chicago when that one was over, it helps seeing at night when pupils are extra wide.

You saw the Warlocks show? Color me jealous.....

  6. I'm not sure I keep track. I think what I do these days is read along in the Taper's books until I come upon a show I would like to hear, and then I go to the archive to find it.

    I also follow this:

    Grateful Dead Listening Guide Blog

If you havent already, check out the novella in the Compendium written about the Field Trip, 8/27/72. The author has thought way way too much about that show. Dont get me wrong though........its a great concert made better after viewing Sunshine Daydream. I sure wish there was more footage from shows like that out there. Imagine having concerts from the Avalon 68 or whatnot available........

  7. It'd also be interesting to list top 5 shows attended....

Thats easy.........any of the Alpine shows I attended from 87 to 89. Maybe the first time they played........ummmmmm.........whats that place in central Indiana......well, anyways that was a pretty good one too.

Louisville, Spring 89(?) was good too........scored a floor ticket at the last minute for face and was on my own the whole show with a pocketful of G13 :stunned

  8. Watched "Journey to the Seventh Planet" the other night, directed by Sid Pink, starring B movie superstar John Agar. I gotta say, it was crapolicious! I mean that in the best way possible-it had an evil talking brain that spewed psychedelic colors, wicked paper mache sets, a cyclops T-Rex and babes galor. I hope to watch "Invisible Invaders", another John Agar vehicle, tonite. If I could, I'd give Netflix a French kiss, just for being there for me.

  9. I don't have an antenna on the roof.

The signal doesn't get fuzzy like analog tv, it just freezes for a second or two, or it sort of pixelates (if that's the right term) and sometimes the signal gets lost completely, making the screen go black with a little floating box that says "no signal".

I have the same problem except I have it hooked to an antenna.

I absolutely hate this digital thing. I was totally fine with the way things were.

Something tells me I'll be watching a lot less TV come June.
