  1. I would not be able to sleep at night if I knew that there was some Zep recordings somewhere that I have never listened to.

I'm not aiming to destroy your sleeping pattern but........................have you ever heard the soundtrack for Death Wish 2? Its a Jimmy Page effort that I picked up on vinyl back in the late 80s. Its not Zepplin but for the Zepplin-crazed it's a must hear.

The Zep album I'd recommend a novice start with is III....mainly cause its my favorite.

The first time I dosed was in 1985, by myself, at 11:30 at nite. The midnite album on the radio was Physical Graphitti. By the time the album was over, I was out of my mind but had that album burned into it as well. The odd part of the experience was that I was unable to listen to PG for years afterwards due to the feelings of anxiety and strangeness it would produce.

  2. Anyone want to talk about the Touch and Go Hideout event? I don't really have time today and frankly I saw few bands, but still had a great time.

I didnt go. I wanted to but forces conspired against me.

Saturdays line up reminded me of what was happening often in Chicago in the late 80s/early 90s.........I recall Killdozer playing everywhere, constantly. Didjits rolled through a lot, Pegboy was getting started(I believe their first show was a bar off of North Ave in Elmhurst-why I remember useless details like this, I dunno). Shellac was playing many local shows, etc. That was a pretty good time to be paying attention to music.

  3. """A long, irate posting on a Wilco fan site by Thax did not help relations (when confronted by the band, he originally denied writing it).""""

Is this confirmation that the ranting post supposedly placed here awhile ago by Thax was indeed by him?

Good luck to you in New York Thax.............I....uh.... hear NYC is much more accomodating to aspiring artists and cheaper to live in than Chicago ever will be.

  4. My brother was in the Peace Corp with posts in Africa and the Caribean.........after a stint in Antigua, he returned bearing a bottle of special rum.......it was infused with herbs and honest to god.....the dick of a turtle.....it was supposed give men 'staying power'..........I'll try almost anything once so I grabbed the bottle and took a deep swig........I managed to swallow it and keep it down but it was without a doubt the most horrible thing I've ever tasted......it smelled like rotten meat and tasted like it too.

  5. American Beauty and Workingman's Dead are really the only 2 essentials, IMO. I've listened to the GD since 85 and those are the only 2 studio albums I've actually ever made it through.

The real meat n potatos is the live stuff anyways.

  6. When I heard JG had passed on, I was at work, wearing my tie/pressed white shirt-no freak flag flying-I remember being stunned. I got up from my desk and wandered about my office, somewhat staggering around-I recall my head swimming in emotion. I had seen Jerry just a few weeks before-Jerry was quite obviously in terrible shape-so this news wasnt the biggest surprise but it still felt like a 2x4 to the back of my head. I've not yet lost anyone close to me but losing JG was a tough one.

Another good example of the dramatically untalented making the big time with a good idea.

:lol They're making music for little kids for god's sake...

Yeah sure............but have you ever had to endure a few hours of that crap ringing throughout your house?

  8. A week ago, I drove to Ontario for some fishing with my bro, buddy and bro-in-law. Thats a 12 hour drive, folks. As we all know, good tunes are a must for that lengthy of a drive. So my bro-in-law pops a new one in the player--immediately I recognize Jack Black and start laughing at his over the top style of ROCKING OUT as a member of Tenacious D. How can one resist the ridiculous nature of the D's sonic attack? I've been listening to this constantly now.................and suddenly have the urge to get some Dio as well.

    Am I crazy?

    Do I need professional help?

How do I make it stop?

    BRAIN ANEURISM!

(FYI-I haven't had cable or satelite TV since 1995, my choice, so I havent seen their HBO show or anything else.......I'm starting to wonder what the hell else I've missed......)
