  1. One show I recall walking out of was the Deads 2nd to last show. Jerry was such a wreck that I split after space....I just couldnt take Jerrys condition.

Slept during a Blues Traveler/WSP show. Actually, I slept thru WSP because I worked all day completely hungover then I smoked up when we got into the Riv. Blammo, I'm sleeping. Woke up to Blues Traveler.........yep, it was an all around nightmare.

I nodded off during Wilco at the Auditorium in Fall 05. Plush seats in the nosebleed section and being kinda old coupled with a lot of Budweiser products that night equal a sleepy Paul....

Someone on this thread mentioned Metallica and the Cult in 1989....and that spurred a memory.......I saw that tour at Poplar Creek......the Cult were opening and the fans were brutal-just booing and giving the finger...not responding well......at one point the lead singer was pleading "C'mon, we're here to make friends"......then they cut their set short. heh.

  2. Man, I havent cleaned an album of mine with a brush in years................never have I used that vinyl cleaner stuff...............and I must say, they still sound great. I have albums that I bought almost 30 years ago that are in almost mint condition. Some simple rules-Use the turntable cover (and keep it down when not in use), clean the stylus and dont leave the record laying around. Its a rare day when I get a skip. Sometimes there is some snap, crackle and pop but it doesnt really detract from the listening experience.

  3. What makes them 'overrated'? I won't say I actually disagree to some extent, but i'm just curious. I like quite a bit of their work after Gish as well.

I saw them a few times back in 90-91, they pretty much were the house band at the Metro back then. They were a raw, powerful, exciting band. By the time 'Melancholy and Infinite Sadness' came out, they were a different band, IMO-whiny and pretentious. The last time I saw them was the pre-release show for that album at Double Door. I have the handmade ticket as a cool souvenior but the show itself was forgettable. Then they jumped the shark with "Landslide". If Billy takes one more full page ad out in the Tribune announcing some "news" about himself, I may fall into a fit of hysteria. Maybe I'm just disappointed with the end result of their collective efforts-they really could of kicked some ass if they kept their cool and egos in check.

  4. Just saw Little Miss Sunshine via Netflix. Great flick. I hear that in June you will be able to simply watch whatever movies you want by streaming them from their site. That will be awesome.

I just cant picture myself sitting in front of a computer watching a movie.

  5. Creation of the Humanoids.

Someone here turned me on to this flick, sorry cant recall who, but I owe them a BIG thanks. That film is better than 95% of the crud released today. I found it to be very thoughtful and deep, no matter how wooden most of the acting was.

  6. I read The Road a few weeks ago in 2-3 sittings. I love the apocalyptic stuff......this one did not disappoint. Crazy, bleak and sad story concerning what the future may hold for man and the Earth. I dont know what got into Cormack but wow, he really put together a powerful tale of love. Hold on, I gotta wrap my feet in some plastic and towels before I go looking for 10 year old, dried out apples. Mmmmmmm, thats good!

If you liked The Road, you may wanna try World War Z..........another apocalyptic tale about zombies taking over the world. Sounds stupid but I thought it was well done. Its gonna make a great movie. The Road would make a great flick too.

  7. Wow, I can't believe two other people on this board have Woody Allen's standup on vinyl. What are odds of that??

Oral contraception: "Last week I asked a girl to go to bed with me, and she said, No. :lol

I have early Woody, Bob Newhart and Jonathan Winters on vinyl too........all cheap finds at garage sales and resale shops.

  8. Are "White Diamond" and "Aquirre-The Wrath of God" any good?

I thought Grizzly Man was pretty good. Tim Treadwell was pretty mentally ill. I don't think he deserved his end (and his girlfriend certainly didn't), but I'd imagine that trying to climb K2 is about as safe as what he did.

I did like all three films. Something that Herzog does that intrigues me......he will dwell on a scene, sometimes for an uncomfortable length of time, in order for a particular point to made or sometimes just because something is just so beautiful to behold. One scene in White Diamond, he focuses on a single drop of water...and the impact is dramatic.

  9. A bud lent me Grizzlyman, which took me a long time to pop in the player because I was reluctant to watch some guy lose his status at the top of the food chain.......but after viewing, I became intrigued by the director, Werner Herzog, who has quite a catalog of work behind him. So, next came "White Diamond" then came "Aquirre-The Wrath of God". It appears that Herzog, who I think is mad in his own right, is fascinated by those who are possessed with desire, often to their own detriment.

Anyone have any suggestions towards what should be next? The midget flick "Even Dwarfs Start Small" looks interesting but this actor, Klaus Kinski, that Herzog uses has become a topic of conversation with my wife and I...........that guy is equally nuts and fascinating! So maybe "Fitzcarraldo" will be next.

  10. The election in IL for governor has the most convoluted scenario ever, with the possibility that some Dems will vote Republican and some Republicans voting Democratic. In both cases the candidates have so much baggage that voting for the opposite party holds out hope for the party either in our out of power.

    LouieB

However, there is an alternative on the ballot this year..............vote Green.
