Happy B-Day!!

While bumming around Barcelona almost 20 years ago, I bought something called 'chocolate' from a Moroccan that was supposed to be one thing but turned out to be something else. Lemme tell ya, black licorice doesnt do the lungs any favors when its smoked.
-
Perhaps "street candy" is code for something else. These cave living brothers have their reputation to uphold you know.
-
Its a roll of the dice with candy "ground scores"....sometimes its a chocolate drop, some times its rabbit droppings. Who, I ask, can not afford to take the time to find out?

"Family Secrets: The Case That Crippled the Chicago Mob" by Jeff Coen.
Very good read if you like this kinda stuff. Turns out I went to school with the son of a street boss (who was recently sentenced to life in prison). And get this....in the mid 80s, a week before I started working at a brand new theater in the western suburbs, these lowlifes bombed it in the hopes of scaring and shaking down the owner. Oooo.....the sordid underbelly of suburbia!

I read a review that stated the film was like receiving trauma and going into shock in which you dont "get over" the event......you wait until it wears off. That pretty much captures how I felt about the power of the book. I'm gonna wait on seeing the film, the last thing I need is more bleakness and depression.

Another side effect of lacing horse tranquilizers with ether.
Are you saying I should be worried?

wow. I'm not sure what I'd do without SST.

The wrong blues-guitar god got on the helicopter that night in August of 1990.
I said that here a few years ago and was almost lynched by an angry mob. Better watch your back brutha.

No televised news stations or shows.
Only printed media.....primarily Chicago Tribune and Wall St Journal.

The Beatles are the single most overrated band in the history of anything.
Quoted for truth.
They're good for inducing sleep though.

And many other kinds of love.
Lammy... that was my exact experience with the Pups and that album. I will always and forever love that band.
Yes, yes, yes!

But the prose:
And the answer, said the judge. If God meant to interfere in the degeneracy of mankind would he not have done so by now? Wolves cull themselves, man. What other creature could? And is the race of man not more predacious yet? The way of the world is to bloom and to flower and die but in the affairs of men there is no waning and the noon of his expression signals the onset of night. His spirit is exhausted at the peak of its achievement. His meridian is at once his darkening and the evening of his day. He loves games? Let him play for stakes. This you see here, these ruins wondered at by tribes of savages, do you not think that this will be again? Aye. And again. With other people, with other sons.
I cant say how much I enjoyed reading this book.

Man, I'm saddened to learn that so many people get turned off by A Confederacy of Dunces.
Oh well, nothing I can do about that I suppose. But I really love that book.
Whats not to love, its f'n hilarious. I've never had another book make me cry with laughter before or since reading it. Hell, I loved that book so much, I stole my "name" from it.
-
A Confederacy of Dunces is an awesome book. A true American classic. Probably one of my top ten favorite books of the twentieth century.
Indeed.
Moby Dick as well.

Considering what is in that shit, isn't it ALL hate-filled?
Excellent point.
-
I dont find the concept of hate filled fast food very compelling.
-
All I know is it's pretty pathetic to camp out overnight in a blizzard to get the equivalent of $150 worth of chicken metered out weekly over a year.
Ya think so, eh?
Clearly you hate chickens and all their kind.
Thanks for another hate filled, chicken-racist post.

forget the list for a minute, I just applaud the opening statement...
I took a History of Pop Music senior year in high school. For some reason the credits for that class were discounted by the colleges I applied to.

Dont worry, you're normal. They bore me to tears.
-
Whoa, didnt see that one coming!

edit: i thought that was flea saying those lines? he's on the album at some point isn't he?

Phil and Brent sang Keep on Growing, the Derek and the Dominoes cover. According to DeadBase they played it 4 times (3 in 85 and 1 in 86)
Wow, no kidding, I love that tune!
