  1. I agree - besides its deep immorality, Iraq was a strategic blunder. There were other ways to achieve our goals in that region, and with the money we've spent and are going to spend on that war, we could build a nuclear power plant in every state of the Union.
  2. With that 'stache, he kinda looks like G. Gordon Liddy.
  3. Bill Kristol makes my point from before a bit better than I did. (Shit. Am I becoming a Conservative?) The Mask Slips By WILLIAM KRISTOL I haven
  4. Well, the U.S. has certainly stepped in it before, and will again, but let me posit this - if we get caught in between a dwindling oil supply and the post-oil energy world, would a militarily protected share of increasingly scarce oil seem like such a bad idea?
  5. I dunno. This is kind of like bathroom whacking-off material for self-hating Americans, isn't it?
  6. If Iran actually attacked the U.S. fleet, I would not give a plugged nickel for the life of every man, woman and child in that country.
  7. Cute story in the NYT. My official pre-Mets favorite NY team is the Giants. My dad liked the Giants, and I have no Brooklyn heritage, so there. Say Hey, Giants Fans Show Their Wistful Side By RICHARD SANDOMIR The members of the New York Baseball Giants Nostalgia Society know this: Their team
  8. Journalists never forget. The brains of journalists are just filled with facts and assertions, biding their time.
  9. He got ya - you can't claim universal nonapplication of standards for rock bands and then deny them for message board posts. Deontology, my man.
  10. Don't blame them - not sure how much Ozzy has left in the tank. When I saw them in '99, Ozzy looked like he was running on one or two brain cells, at most. Band sounded great, though.
  11. Yes. I do like "Heaven and Hell" and most of "Mob Rules."
  12. Yeah - I don't really consider Zep, or most of it at least, metal, but one can certainly argue that LZ1 and 2 were seminal in founding the genre. No, the kind of crunch Sab and others generated - it's a lost art, like pyramid building.
  13. My only criterion for what is metal and what is not is the opinion of myself, circa 1983. I can't always describe it, but I know it when I hear it.
  14. Here's an extended list. 1. Black Sabbath 2. Mot
  15. He should have taken his own advice there. Look, nobody likes to think they're the subject of somebody else's anthropological theorizing. What I took away from Obama's SF comments was that he feels that the embracing of religion and support of the Second Amendment by people who used to work in factories is not a rational decision, but an irrational emotional reaction. As I live close to the East's answer to Berkeley, a charming little town called Woodstock, I am exposed to this line of thinking quite a bit and I have come to dislike it almost as much as I dislike racism and xenophobia. What Ob
  16. Report: Workers dig furiously to rid new Yanks stadium of Red Sox jersey ESPN.com news services Crisis, and curse, averted. It took about five hours, but the Red Sox jersey that was embedded in the concrete of the Yankees' new stadium to place a curse on the New York franchise has been unearthed with jackhammers, according to a published report. Earlier this week, a construction worker who is a Boston fan working on the concrete crew at the $1.3 billion new Yankee Stadium buried a Red Sox shirt in with the concrete foundation, in the hopes of jinxing the New York Yankees' new home, the
  17. I need a web page like that. Instead of "Committed Christian," though, it should read "Committed Green Chile Stew Maker" or something like that.
  18. And people who resent elitist liberal attitudes.
  19. Love it when the Mets have their traditional blue caps on. The all-black one is nice, but I have never warmed up to the black hat-blue brim model.
  20. Really, happy birthday. The happiest black-market, exceeding-statutory-limits-on-kickassedness birthday you can score for yourself.
