  1. One of the guys I worked for back in the day, Hamilton Meserve, is the son of Margaret Hamilton. Some of Margaret's old furniture was in our office.
  2. You can compare Hitler to Stalin and maybe Genghis Khan and Pol Pot. And the Khan in Star Trek. Though Ricardo Montalban doesn't really deserve that kind of slander.
  3. As a Mets fan, even I have to say Yankee Stadium is a great place and should be preserved as a vital part of American history, like Independence Hall or Little Big Horn.
  4. That Ghana's team is called the Black Stars is just about the coolest thing ever.
  5. For a 0-0 game, Argentina and the Netherlands was entertaining. The Argentines were clearly the better team, but the Dutch got lucky and had some interesting chances at the end. We'll see how the U.S. does later today. I haven't given up all hope; their stand against Italy was awe-inspiring and was the first thing that made me proud to be an American since Gerald Ford's WIN buttons.
  6. I was under the impression that he was pitching OK for the Dodgers.
  7. It's moves like this that explain why the Cubs struggle so much: CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs agreed to a contract Sunday with fifth-round draft pick Jeff Samardzija of Notre Dame, a star wide receiver for the Fighting Irish football team.
  8. The U.S. is playing some heroic football now.
  9. I could be wrong, but I think Poland lost a higher percentage of its people in WWII than any other country.
  10. Of course you're not. (Are you?) All I'm saying is that our team deserves our support. I don't like that being patriotic is now the province of the right wing. I'd like to find some way to reclaim a little bit of the love of the American people, our people, for those of us who espouse lefty or leftist views. Rooting for this team may be the way to do this. Is there any other country that has within it a sector of its own people who hate it so?
  11. That's OK. My ancestors came to this country so long ago that there are no links back to whatever homelands they may have come from.
  12. I agree fully. This is like the last area in the world where the U.S. is still an underdog.
  13. Saw the Al Gore movie the other night. A very entertaining and informative piece of work. Sad, though, to think of how less fucked we and the world would be if Al had been made president in 2000 instead of that retard.
  14. As an American, I can't help but root for the U.S., but if we win, the rest of the world will totally totally TOTALLY fucking hate us instead of just totally fucking hating us.
  15. Found half-and-half and made coffee because I HAVE A LOT OF WORK TO DO.
  16. Pretty soon, I'm going to start in with the red wine - Montepulciano, to be precise.
  17. And the lure of the New York Cosmos, a team that was more interesting than the entire MLS combined.
  18. When I was a pre-teenager, the youth soccer program got more kids to sign up than the baseball one.
