Nor am I. I just find it hard to believe under any circumstance where the UAW membership would approve giving back their health care benefits to allow the Big 3 to pay into the Fed plan. Also, on it

Sorry I'm not playing by the rules, I just really want to know what context that picture was taken in. Was it like the whole McDonalds "I'd hit it" ad campaign or what?

Why are they all giving out the "shocker" hand gesture?

I used to have really good health insurance when I worked for DANA Co. (UAW). That lasted up until 2001 when they filed for bankruptcy and closed like 35% of their facilities including the one I worked at. Unfortunately I had to do what most other people in similar situations do, go out and find a new job and get new insurance. Now I know most of this debate is over retiree benefits and legacy costs, but as I recall, in the case of DANA-UAW retirees, they were pretty much hung out to dry by the bankruptcy. A point I found interesting was that, to my knowledge, the UAW didn

If AIG was based in China and received money from the Chinese government I would imagine the repercussions would be quite severe for their actions. I know what you are saying about being forced to take money, but these people obviously forgot about the key word in

I think the one thing the Chinese bailout has over our version is that I don't think the Chinese governtment will sit still while bailout money is spent on corporate parties/retreats or paying year end bonuses to executives.

I completely agree with all of this. I'm just concerned with the disconnect out there. I've talked to so many people that have this $250K number in their head and they don't think this will have any affect on them. If I had a nickel for every time I heard that I'll do better under Obamas tax plan... I'd rather just pay the taxes if I could keep other operating costs in line. Just like my property tax example, on it's face spending more money for schools through local property takes doesn't seem to have any "real" cost if you are a renter, until your rents go up.

Oh, I worry and most of what you have brought up is well reasoned and articulated. We need to pay down the debt and reduce deficit spending definitely, but we can

Again election related, it was on the ballot November 4th. Also you don't think what I did today will be mirrored by any business that can pass costs on to the consumer?
-
Nope, election related though. i.e. november 4th. People have a disconnect between what they vote for and the cost, the responses from my note will bear this out. If the market will stand passing on increased costs 100% to the end consumer then it will have no effect on the small business. That is a pretty big if. [quote name='Đ

Wait until we find out how the new "tax the rich" plans shake out. I'm pretty sure this won't be my last note to go out.

I just drafted the following note to send out with rent statements this month: Due to the passing of the property tax levy referendum on November 4th, 2008 we will be forced to raise your rent by $85 per month to cover increased operating costs. We will also increase garage rents by $25 per month as these structures are subject to the property tax increase also. This change will take effect Jan 1, 2009. Thank you. FYI, none of these tenants make over $250,000.
