I think it helps you get more excited for the show. In the case of Wilco, I listened to them almost straight for a week before the show, and afterwards they were on a really consistant rotation on my CD player. the only band i've ever truly been so burnt out on i didn't listen to them before a gig was the old 97's...

My first Wilco show was October 14th, 2005 at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium. It was the 3rd farthest away from home show I have seen, and I remember being so excited that day that it was super hard to concentrate on my classwork. "Jesus Etc." was the first song on YHF when I first heard the leak. I remember it was a Wends. and I was working on math homework, but took a break to put the cd-r in the cd player that used to live in the den. When the strings kicked in I stopped my homework and sat there and just listened, like intensely listened, for the enitre song... it's a 6700 seat amplitheatre....
