So there's a big fire burning in SoCal

i've almost burned down before (well, my house). evacuating is terrifying, especially when your family is split up. -
well, if all the ice in the arctic melts, can't we just manufacture an incredibly huge sheet of thick white plastic with built in solar converters to absorb the heat and power the earth to be placed where the ice used to be? Then we can use snow machines to blow manufactured snow onto the floating plastic and the polar bears can live on it. We can cut holes in the plastic for them to do their fishing. Just trying to think out of the box in a worst case scenario.

I would like to have seen The Brave Little Toaster included instead of Chicken Run.

Sigur Ros- Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust Also, although it was released at the very end of 2007, I did know it existed until a few months ago and is insanely awesome. It stands alone as a great film and an even greater music film. The loving portrayal of the Icelandic people and landscape is just breathtaking: -
when i was in college, there was a converse outlet not far from me that sold chucks in all the colors of the rainbow. less desirable colors were only 10 bucks! sadly, the outlet closed when production moved out of the country. i've been wearing them since i was a wee lass and i remember my grandpa telling me he had worn them when he was young... i think they have always been hip

yeah, there were a whole lot of ironic hipster mustaches (w/o beards) coupled with sweat bands and neon clothing. On girls, I noticed an inordinate number of short jumpsuits (wtf, are these back in style?).

me tooooo! jasmine and i somehow found our way there our first night visiting chicago... it was totally by accident that we were able to locate it. it must have been some sort of beacon of light!

I was at the Block Party today and it was pretty great. There was a nice variety of music from around the world. There were also some extremely interesting fashion ensembles. We could have removed a certain 10% of the population, put them in a separate room, and had an 80s theme party. Aside from that, I think Giant Sand was my favorite of the day... it is too bad they weren't allowed to play longer (I guess they had to get on the road). Another highlight was the Puppet Bike. I like fuzzy little puppets that dance. Lowlight of the day? The drunken spelling bee should have been outside s

i am scheduled to help out 10am saturday but i have to take my car in to the shop that morning and will probably need to pick it up while i am supposed to be volunteering. so, i may or may not come. in any case, i either want to see or hear all about the drunken spelling bee.

Eh. Maybe it will grow on me.

RIP, Bill. He was partially responsible for some of the greatest memories of my childhood (and adulthood, for that matter).

There is something about What Lies Beneath that gives me a good creep out every time. It is nothing unique, but I do love the setting.

Maudie! What a great Halloween costume that would make for you!!

crap. just when i thought i had wiped bob's memory from my mind!! i think any sequence with the backwards speak is pretty creepy too. not to mention the backwards herky-jerky movements and the chase scene inside the Black Lodge. Yeesh. I recently read this and was scared from the start. Maine is a scary place! Speaking of Maine.... well, New Hampshire, the drive up Mt Washington was a pure nightmare for me once we got above the tree line. Pretty? Yes, gorgeous. BUT, that little road is soooo narrow, there is no railing, and cars are passing going down the mountain. One false mov

Hopefully a first time home buyer soon!

I wouldn't mind living off the beaten track, but I am trying to keep in mind the commute for both me (drive to Rosemont) and Kris (public trans to Lincoln Park). I don't want to go any further than I am now from Rosemont (about 13 miles). I am looking at Harwood Heights and Norridge, but don't want to go too far for Kris. I looove Elmwood Park, but I don't like that Kris would have to travel through iffy neighborhoods at night to get home from work. I really like parts of Mayfair, too, So, I guess we'll see. -

Really?! Most of our greatest improvements have come from our Six Sigma teams. They are doing things left and right that work/get implemented. I guess it depends on the team! Anyhow... what do you guys think of Redfin? I was pretty gung-ho on using them for a short period of time. Then I thought I would do a pretty crappy job of finding a house and changed my mind.
