  1. mine broke years ago and so i've been driving around with the same 8 cds in my car ever since.
  2. The Assassination of Jesse James- slow and long but semi-interesting and semi-creepy (Casey Affleck's character).
  3. no, i was actually further away from cabrini. my zip code changed, though, from lincoln park's to logan square's. But I didn't move to Logan Square, I moved to Bucktown. Which is probably closer to Lincoln Park than I had been before. Anyway, I was annoyed.
  4. once, i moved up the street (here in chicago, about a mile north of where I had been) and my rate went up $400 a year. My policy just dropped in price dramatically, though.
  5. I only have to do 26 miles/day (40 minutes each direction)... I'm okay with it.
  6. i've heard great things about nicaragua... but I've never been south of Mexico.
  7. doc martens seem like they would be way too heavy for lots of walking. i would go to a store that specializes in athletic footwear. we have a great one here in chicago where they watch the way you run/walk and choose your shoe based on our foot's needs. its worth it to find a pair that feel awesome. i think when i was in college, i wore a lot of Reef flip-flops... but that was because it was often very hot (so cal).
  8. despite the horrific advertising campaign, this movie turned out to be rather awesome. it was super funny and definitely endearing. and i loved the puppet dracula musical... that was just genius.
  9. i slept through earthquakes my whole life growing up in san diego. today was no exception. how rare are new madrid seismic events, anyway?
  10. that song is jeff's least favorite song ever... it was done very briefly in mocking tone.
  11. Jay Ryan did the poster.. its awesome! where's the guy with the setlist? this was such a lovely and incredible evening... and i heard the song i've been wanting to hear forever
  12. yeah, gas prices are insane here in chicago... and i can't figure out why. being on the main train and highway piplines seems like it would be cheaper. i'm thinking it is some insane tax the city charges. i try and get my gas in schiller park, just before the city lines
  13. okay. i know what i am coming as now. all i can say is that i am sure to be the most attractive woman in the room.
  14. that only works if you are an actual rock star. i don't want to see anyone i know in that mode of "dress."
  15. i guess my point/idea was that a bunch of kids would never come up with something like that on their own if they had never seen/heard anything like that before. heck, it could be exposure to anything- the news, parents talking about stuff, real life experience, or whatever- but not something they could imagine out of the blue. kids are creative but a can't believe any grouping of kids would be naturally violent.
  16. i don't think they were all going to charge. i thought one of them was going to sneak up and hit her on the head with that pointy paperweight. i think thats really scary these kids were thinking of stuff like that. at that age, i think they must be emulating something they've seen on TV because i just don't think they have the awareness to have thought of it on their own.
  17. find out what you are allowed to have and what will be provided. when i was in college and lived in a dorm, we were not allowed to have hotplates. also, our laundry had loadable cards, eliminating the need for quarters. i would just suggest getting informed about what your place will be like. other than that, a good strong laundry basket, space saving things like drawers and tubs, cleaning stuff (paper towels, windex, etc) and a mini-fridge. do NOT bring everything you own. do not bring more than a few books (you won't have time to read them) and do not bring all of your clothes. keep
