nurfherder
I play with capo on 4. Also, I play E during the bridge (I don't get the connection, etc) instead of Em.
jhc
Please make corrections if there are any! This is the Tweedy solo version, right? The "full band" version at http://www.gumbopages.com/music/wilco/song...ays.in.love.txt is pretty right on.
kaysettes
Yeah, this is the Tweedy solo version.
jhc
Yeah, this is the Tweedy solo version. Duh, just noticed that in the thread subtitle - sorry.
Shoebox
I haven't ever heard the solo version, but I'm assuming it has the same melody, just played in a different key (G on capo 4) rather than B, in standard tuning, right? If that's the case, then the chords are as follows (The chord spacing will likely get screwed up once I post the reply, but listening to the song, it's easy to tell where the changes should fall): G C GC Why, I wonder, is my heart full of holes? G C GCAnd the feeling goes but my hair keeps growing G CWill I set the sunBm, Am DOn a big-wheeled wagon?AmOh I'm braggingC D G C I'm always in love When I let go of your throat-sweet throttleWhen I clean the lash of your black-belt modelWill I catch the moonLike a bird in a cage? It's for you I swoonI'm always in love DI don't get the connectionCIf this is only a testAmI hope I do my bestCYou know I won't forget Edited October 7, 2005 by Shoebox
dashseven
I agree with the last post about the bridge, they all sounds like major chords to me. In the key you were working in, with the capo at 5, this is how I think the bridge should go. DI don't get the connectionGThis is only a testEI hope I do my bestGYou know I won't forget The part that is troubling me is right after the final verse. I was using gumbopages.com as a guide, and there is one chord that is missing. Relative to the capo for the solo version, here is what I mean. (The chords won't be lined up correctly over the lyrics, but you can hear the changes.) F#m Em AOn a big wheeled wagonEI'm braggingG D [Missing chord]I'm always in love EIt's a drag I snagG D [Missing chord]I'm always in loveEI'm worriedG D G D G DI'm always in love I think the missing chord is just a variation of D, but I haven't been able to find it for the life of me. PLease reply if you hear what I am talking about and have any ideas about it. I will keep searching for that chord in the meantime. Also, I noticed he plays with the capo at 4 in the version that is on Outta Print Outta Site and at 5 in his final Lounge Ax solo show from 01-04-2000. I knew this would happen. As soon I made the post, I was bound to get it. The missing chord is D7! So.... F#m Em AOn a big wheeled wagonEI'm braggingG D D7I'm always in love EIt's a drag I snagG D D7I'm always in loveEI'm worriedG D G D G DI'm always in love Edited November 4, 2005 by dashseven

But there is another missing chord. The first g in the last line there ("I'm always in love) is minor.
kamera
JT played an inspiring version of this at Otto's
BlackKettle23
Also, when he plays the G minor it's in first inversion (3rd scale degree, Bb in this case, is the bass note) like in Magazine Called Sunset ---------G------------------Gmin(Bb bass)----------D....etc... (in relation to capo)"....me ever forget this impossible longing for you.........." Edited September 2, 2006 by BlackKettle23
Gobias Industries
The minor chord is G minor. You could play Bb barred, but it doesn't sound as nice (the Bb chord fits better in some other tunes, e.g. A magazine called sunset). It could be the position of the capo and my concept of harmony that is messing with my ear, but I would rather play G minor than Bb. @Shoebox: Tweedy plays the solo version as the rest of the thread is. Even on the "studio" version or the full band version, even, Tweedy plays it as such except capos at 9. Evidence: Myspace has a video of the band doing this on '03, and it's evident that Tweedy is capoing really high and has his hand in the D chord shape the majority of the tune.
