tugmoose
Is there a scumbag next door? I'm also for a mandatory DNA ID database. Consider all the crimes this would instantly solve, or even prevent.
OOO
I'm also for a mandatory DNA ID database. Consider all the crimes this would instantly solve, or even prevent. "Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." - Benjamin Franklin I'm not saying this quote necessarily applies directly to the situation, but its pretty important to consider the ways this would get misused and the liberties it would strip from people. ction
Great...I've got a kid toucher .07 miles from my house. Which I guess is an improvement, since there were half a dozen near my old house (and also a guy who decided to shoot up a police station).
Duck-Billed Catechist
You diddle a fucking kid, you give up your right for me not to know exactly where you live.I think he was talking about a mandatory DNA database, which may or may not involve the entire population. I'm not sure what Tug was advocating.
JUDE
They should just turn New York (city) into a maximum-security detention facility like that one movie.

I'm not sure what Tug was advocating. yeah i have no problem with a sex crime offenders database (apparently im surrounded by offenders in South Central....:-( ) , but extending it to the whole population before they commit a crime seems weird. But Minority Report was awesome.
bjorn_skurj
Sex offenders pose a challenge to our society and the concept of "once you do your time, you're a free person."

But Minority Report was awesome. I think the implication there is, if you solve a crime (based on DNA) and jail the offender, he's not out on the street and therefore unable to commit additional crimes. Those are the crimes you're preventing.

MattZ
I feel so much better now that I know there are 10 sex offenders within a 3 block radius of my apartment.
Calexico
I think it already is. At least it's more entertaining than the movie.

Gobias Industries
Relatively clean here. Though apparently the site has no additional information, not even the criminal records of what those people did, just random mugshots. "I want to know which guy would molest me or rape me, GOD DAMMMIT!" But in al seriousness, I doubt a DNA database idea would get through unscathed. It seems to restrict civil liberties to me. I'm not exactly sure what it is, but I'll think on it.

tugmoose
But in al seriousness, I doubt a DNA database idea would get through unscathed. It seems to restrict civil liberties to me. I'm not exactly sure what it is, but I'll think on it.Admittedly, any system can be abused, and you must weigh the possible risks against the benefits. But just consider that a drop of DNA left at a crime scene would basically equal the guy leaving his name, address, telephone number, place of employment, favorite color, turn ons, turn offs. Would seem to exponentially simplify police work, as well as protect people from being falsely/erroneously accused. I also think that baseball should eliminate the infield fly rule, that basketball teams should have the choice of shooting free throws or getting possession of the ball with a fresh clock, one foot inbounds in the NFL should be legal, goalies should serve penalties, and what's this one point for an overtime loss NHL crap? SlowBurn68
I wonder how many of them are 17 year old offenders that had sex with thier 16 year old GF or vice versa?
Duck-Billed Catechist
If that's the case, they explicitly list "under 16, offender under 18" or something like that.
Spawn's dad
considering the amount of pervs who like to take advantage of kids I'm guessing far less than you'd think.
Duck-Billed Catechist
In perusing around my place and my chidhood home, I came across only 1 who fit that description (Romeo type). I'm pretty sure I found a guy who was two years behind me at my high school.
Spawn's dad
there's been three recent arrests right in my area but they don't show up on there.
Duck-Billed Catechist
I would think there'd have to be a conviction before they would show up in a registry. Think about it.
