MattZ
no it won't, christ I hope you are right solace. But I felt the same way about the swift boat vets. And boy was I wrong. Kerry has even decided to go back to DC because he doesnt want to be a distraction. This is really unbelievable. He is such a dolt.
solace
I hope you are right solace. But I felt the same way about the swift boat vets. And boy was I wrong. Kerry has even decided to go back to DC because he doesnt want to be a distraction. This is really unbelievable. He is such a dolt.Kerry had way more problems in '04 than the swifties, i think they had a pretty minimal impact on the outcome. the thing is, people, while sometimes stupid, can realize that Kerry is his own person, and just because of what he said, doesn't mean all other democrats feel that way (even if it were true). i mean, do you think that everyone now thinks that all Republian Senators/Reps are pedo's because of Foley? Atticus
isn't the larger issue here simply that a man who almost ended up being the leader of the 55th most literate nation on the planet should be a little more careful with his words? or that this cup of coffee is making me feel like I need to scoot on over to the bathroom--where I can probably find most of the substance of this thread? politics are fun like grade school!!! MattZ
isn't the larger issue here simply that a man who almost ended up being the leader of the 55th most literate nation on the planet should be a little more careful with his words? People make mistakes. People who have every word analyzed and taped and put in the newspaper are more likely to have their mistakes become national headlines. I am willing to chalk this up to a mistake and move on. And while Kerry almost ended up being the leader of the 55th most literate nation, think of some of the quotes we've got from the guy that actually won? Some of which were mistakes and some of which were policy.
jhc
isn't the larger issue here simply that a man who almost ended up being the leader of the 55th most literate nation on the planet should be a little more careful with his words? Of course that's true. And even if he hadn't it would have been a dumb joke from a guy who got the same grades as Bush in college and voted to authorize the war. And he really should just STFU. But the larger issue IMO is that many Republicans are still insisting that Kerry called the troops dumb when it is painfully obvious that he didn't.
jff
no it won't, christ OK, mayne not ALL democrats, but the democrats are far less likely to regain control of anything now. John Kerry was the nominee two years ago, and remains one of the three or four highest profile democrats currently in office. Every republican in America, plus lots of democrats and undecideds, right now believe he said soldiers are uneducated and/or stupid. OUCH...democrats just lost. See you in '08. MattZ
i mean, do you think that everyone now thinks that all Republian Senators/Reps are pedo's because of Foley? I happen to think the swifties had a much bigger impact than you. And I also think that Repubs/pedos to Dems/anti-troops is apples to oranges. I think people are much more likely to believe the latter than the former.
Atticus
I just received the following email from Ken Mehlman. I can't take this pressure. I'm not sure that I alone can keep the John Kerry Democrats out of power. Could some of you help? Dear Neil, Listen closely this election season and you'll hear the truth about what Democrats represent. Monday, failed Presidential candidate John Kerry brazenly insulted the brave American men and women serving in our military. At a campaign stop for Democrats in California, Kerry told students that "you know education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't you get stuck in Iraq." In Kerry's cocoon of privilege, those who serve in our military are failures who never did their homework or "made an effort to be smart." Watch this video saluting the sacrifices of our troops and send it to 5 friends. John Kerry is dead wrong. Our troops who put their lives on the line represent the very best of America. They strongly believe in the cause they're fighting for. Our troops deserve to be honored, not insulted by the likes of John Kerry. Stand up and tell John Kerry to apologize to our men and women in uniform. Of course, this wouldn't be the first time John Kerry insulted or demeaned American troops. Last year, Kerry told a CBS interviewer that "[T]here is no reason, Bob, that young American soldiers need to be going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night, terrorizing kids and children." Will Democrats stand up and condemn these demeaning attacks by John Kerry? Or will they stay silent? John Kerry's outrageous comments are a vivid reminder of why these elections matter. In six days, politicians who are as bad or worse than John Kerry could take control of Congress. In their unguarded moments they talk about impeachment, insult the President as a "liar" and a "loser," and say that "everything is on the table" when it comes to tax increases on all Americans. Tell Kerry to apologize now. And do more than express your disappointment. Cast your vote early or on Election Day. Volunteer for the final 6 day sprint. Make phone calls to voters in key races. We need you now to keep the John Kerry Democrats out of power. Sincerely, Chairman Ken Mehlman Ken Mehlman Chairman, Republican National Committee
jff
many Republicans are still insisting that Kerry called the troops dumb when it is painfully obvious that he didn't. What do you mean by "still"? His speech was yesterday, right? From now until Tuesday they'll be saying it louder and believing it more. Bank on that.

Yeah, and people bought Thriller in the 1980s - doesn't mean they want a personal concert with Michael Jackson anymore, does it? I think most people will see this as KERRY saying something grossly stupid, and not the DEMS saying something grossly stupid. It's not like they're bailing him out. That being said, it's quite apparent to me that, while Kerry may have inadvertantly insulted troops yesterday, Bush has been insulting troops daily since March of 2003. Sir Stewart
Kerry had way more problems in '04 than the swifties, i think they had a pretty minimal impact on the outcome.I actually think that campaign (the Swift Boat Veterans For Truth) was the #1 reason Kerry didn't get elected. Well, except for Diebold... As long as I'm posting in this thread I guess I should say: shut the fuck up, John Kerry. Please.

quarter23cd
I think Kerry is just being taken out of context. And if what he said makes him an a-hole when then so be it. I'm going to tell my kids the same thing. The last thing I want is for my kids who are 2 and 3 years old to be killed Bush's war when the are young adults. And if something doesn't change and Bush and company has their way, my kids will be fighting this war years from now. F that.I couldn't agree more.

Guest Speed Racer
20 years vs. 2 years. Pop charts vs. war time politics. I'm not buying it. Nevermind every other point I made, just knock the analogy... My overarching point, as explained in the rest of my posts, is that people don't see Kerry has the 'leader' or the brainiac of the Dems but rather as the 'celebrity' of the Dems, because he was the dude that ran for office that one time...He said stupid things then that didn't get him elected, and he's saying stupid things again.
