I saw The King of Kong (a documentary about two men battling for the Donkey Kong world record) and The Go-Getter (a new Zooey Deschanel movie with a soundtrack by M. Ward) this weekend at the AFI Dallas festival. King of Kong will be huge. If you like American Movie and similar zany documentaries, you will love it. And The Go-Getter made me fall in love with Zooey Deschanel all over again. Over the credits she even sings a Richard and Linda Thompson cover with M. Ward ("When I Get to the Border," with Nels on guitar). If either of these movies make it to your neck of the woods, I highly recommend both.

Finally got around to seeing this

I didn't care much for it at first, but in the three days since I've seen it I find myself kind of haunted by Dieter Dengler's story and many of the images in this film. I'm really looking forward to the release of "Rescue Dawn", though I've heard there's a chance it won't be released at all. Hopefully it will, I'd love to see what Herzog does with it.

From IMDb:

New TV Superman Tom Welling has given the Teen Wolf film franchise a boost after reportedly signing on for a new movie. In the new Teen Wolf, a remake of Michael J. Fox's 1985 movie, the fun-loving werewolf of the title will be played by a female. Website DarkHorizons.com reports that Smallville star Welling will be part of the supporting cast of the new film.

Huh. Makes me think of:

I saw that. Not great.

I saw it, too. In the theater. I saw Teen Wolf Too, too, also in the theater. Not my best days.

Perhaps now is a good time to confess that I own the Teen Wolf double feature DVD--with both the Michael J. Fox and Jason Bateman movies!

Good a time as any. I guess I'll admit right now that I have a DVD copy of The Toy in my house right now.

I watched Babel last night. I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't all that preachy or maudlin, like I'd heard. It certainly doesn't deserve the Crap - I mean - Crash comparisons. Great music. Some breathtaking sequences (the helicopter flight, particularly), solid perofrmances. I could've done without the kid destroying the gun, but you can't have everything.

I thought Babel was good, but not great. I didn't really think it deserved all of the oscar buzz.

Last night, I saw Reign on Me, which I thought was really good. I really love Don Cheadle's work, and Adam Sandler is so great in this. There were a few tears shed, i really can't help these things.

SingYourWayHome1945_FF_104x78_050820061745.gif

In this RKO musical comedy, directed by Anthony Mann, Haley plays a full-of-himself journalist returning to the U.S. after the end of World War II with a shipful of young performers who were trapped in Europe four years earlier while entertaining the troops. The kids are still under the influence of the performing bug and, when not "fooling around," take every chance to burst into song.

Sing Your Way Home / Anthony Mann / USA / 1945

Tedious, formulaic B-musical that stars Jack Haley, who played the Tin Man in Wizard of Oz six years earlier. For me, though, the primary historical interest lies with director Anthony Mann, who later became an ace Hollywood filmmaker best known for Westerns with Jimmy Stewart. (To these eyes, Mann's The Man From Laramie, The Naked Spur, and Man of the West easily trump anything by, say, John Ford or Sergio Leone.)

Is it true Buddy Ebsen was supposed to play Haley's role in Sing Your Way Home but was allergic to Marcy McGuire?

:D

Because nobody watched it - I believe it was NBC's attempt to copy the success of That 70s Show. I watched it - as it was mostly about the time period I was actually in high school.

I've just got two things to say, and both are cliches:

How come I didn't see this show before, and why the hell did it get cancelled after 12 episodes?

because there was not enough seth rogan in it. (just kidding i really loved that show its a shame that no one watched it).
