CORNERSTONE

Haze in city blocks defeat

I'm laying with a tangled moon.

Reflected in a puddle deep,

The rising of the sun can't

Come too soon.

The color of the concrete creeps

Up buildings topped with tanks and wires,

The minutes crawl, becoming long,

Inviting sighs, inciting hours.

You know you can't

Carry a tune.....

Yet you sing to me

In a roundabout way.......

A little nature thing I've been rolling around in my head...

Hwy 65 N. October 2006

Lofty skeleton bodies,

once spring green,

have stripped on

rolling hills whose

backs rise together

like miles of conjoined twins

into short ranges.

Great silent mounds,

awash in a sea

of whiskey and wine leaves.

In evening, the morning star

is just as beautiful, a perfect hole

through which the pure white radiance

of heaven

courses through the darkening curtain

of a coming cold winter night.

"Bottles"

Scream to me

not speaking or singing

Slurring words

not thinking or dreaming

Using this

to numb the unspoken

pain you felt when younger.

I came from you

at least in nature

But I am not like you

I am not my mother's daughter.

Anger, hot, and silent

At what you become

When you touch the bottle.

and I don’t mean death always

in the sense of actualization

so much

as I mean death

in the sense of fascination

hopping the fence to

change the outcome

see what’s coming – try to

make the end

justify and solidify

what just might be

an otherwise

pointless

life.

sky blue sky

my heart is racing

and I'm pie eyed

the things you share

restore grace and my faith

in mankind

the possibilities of making strangers

into true friends

shines through your smile

and endless wisdom you so freely share

thank you for making

my sky blue sky

COAL BIN REVERB

Glows of flowing moments

Leap into the air,

Leap through the smoke,

Leave behind the hype

And rise up! Raise us up!

Earn our smiles, for a moment,

And there are signs to be seen

If your eyes are the windows,

Into basements of houses all

Grown cold with attentions,

Glows of flowing moments

Shoot by my ear,

In the blink of an eye,

I sang a song to you,

And it was just what you needed,

But not so you'd say.

"the book I bled"

Words seep out of my skin and form in my sweat

They craft stories in my pores

Characters

living and thinking on my fingernails

smoking and drinking in my eyes

mysteries materializing in my hair

romances falling apart just for me

these books become the sum of my parts

collecting in my head and begging to be released

Here's an old one I added recently to my blog.

Feel free to drop by with comments, suggestions, love offerings, etc.

Autumnal

Dawn crinkles open

above the Nova Scotia shoreline,

raising my eyes to distant trees

the color of rolled rusted wire,

as I stand beneath these looming cliffs,

squinting against the sky ....

I am tired

of pulling on boots in the dirty-grey morning,

and of watching these rising waters

beating down the dust

of well-wrought days,

and of grinning clamdiggers

waving from docks along the quay ....

And dusk comes slow on this shoreline:

the lights of Halifax are far away,

and I am tired, tired

of watching the slow-motion herons

disappearing over the sea ....

Or my other favorite source of found poetry: Donald Rumsfeld

The Unknown

As we know,

There are known knowns.

There are things we know we know.

We also know

There are known unknowns.

That is to say

We know there are some things

We do not know.

But there are also unknown unknowns,

The ones we don't know

We don't know.

Rt.619 Dream

Sunlight through the webbing

of our fingers glows like amber

Kissed the rail

in absence of reaction

and you in abstention

then drifted back towards redemption

in the tall grass

and detritus

along side the road

Think it was the fire

that burned it all clean

beneath the trees

in the weeds

you'll find your precious things

like freckles and crows feet

and tabs from old pull top cans

i caught your soul in a bag

i dont think you'll get it back

i didnt want you in this place

i didnt want you near my home

i have nothing to say

i never wanted it to be this way

i keep your soul in a jar

i keep you safe from harm

you should be

be free

you should of never came to me

and you

you are so beautiful

you

you are so wonderful

i'd break the glass and set you free

if you'd never bother me

you could fly

fly away

i would stay

stay away

i have nothing to say

i never wanted it to be this way

(who ya burn)

just for some cheep advertisment

this song will be on the new cd we are in the studio for :thumbup

Yesterday I found a letter you wrote

in a random drawer I never open.

I was cleaning the apartment.

But its not really cleaning, is it?

When you move paper piles

to other spots to deal with later?

Which is probably why I found it

when and where I did.

It rained yesterday and

I must have put it there

the last time I cleaned on a rainy day.

Assuming I

Thanks guys. That thing poured out of me this morning. I don't really know where it came from, but it was a bizarre and powerful experience. Means a lot to me that you liked it. Thanks again.

SHEER MADNESS

Feel like I'm full of poison,

Need to poke it with a pen,

The storms outside and the storms inside,

And that terrible, terrible wind.

I shiver as I sit here,

Shaking all that beats within,

And every little hole in the cold night air

Points its finger as if at a sin.

The walls are uncertain, standing

In the halls and all around,

We hold our breath, staring to the sky

For that other foot to come on down.

And I'll be honest with you,

I'm no good sometimes,

I'm fried, I'm tired, I'm childish,

Though I hope it never ends.

And the sun comes out the next day,

Did we always know it would?

One day we'll laugh the perfect note,

It'll be just as it should.

But till then the night is pregnant,

And she's sick and full of woe,

The wind howls on, the clouds peel back,

Exposing sharp moon glow.

These nights are born for stories,

Of hairy evil men,

Who couldn't let the darkness pass,

Or type it out to their friends.

We see their names in papers,

Cartoons and friendly fire,

I type one out to future shine,

A tiger, then the wire.
