So Long
I liked Shake the Sheets more, Annunciation Day was a bit too much for me. I'm all for free speech, but calling the Virgin Mother Mary a cheatin' whore...c'mon, even if you're not Chrisitan, have respect for other people's religions. Seriously.  Other than that, and the horrible vocal mix of Bomb.Repeat.Bomb, the new album's really good. Although, I have to agree about the cover art...
quarter23cd
I've only listened to it maybe once or twice through so far. Initial reaction is that I might like it slightly better than Shake the Sheets, but again has that good-but-not-quite-great feel to it. Will have to listen more, tho. owl
If you take away "Colleen" and "Bottle of Buckie," it's a pretty damn good album.Out of the last two, I still prefer Shake the Sheets, though. And Ted Leo is still awesome, regardless.
solace
Out of the last two, I still prefer Shake the Sheets, though. And Ted Leo is still awesome, regardless.agree with this. but Tyranny is still easily his best, w/ Oak and then Sheets not too far behind
cryptique
If you take away "Colleen" and "Bottle of Buckie," it's a pretty damn good album.I haven't figured out all the hate for "Bottle of Buckie." What's your beef with it? I actually quite like that tune. I'm not crazy about "Colleen," but I don't mind it.
owl
I dunno, I just find the lyrics kind of annoying, I guess. The thing about those two songs is that they seem tacked on. Why are they next to each other on the CD? agree with this. but Tyranny is still easily his best, w/ Oak and then Sheets not too far behind  Yeah, I'm trying to get "Tyranny" on vinyl...someday. I have the others. I ham partial to "Shake the Sheets," but only because that's how I discovered TL/Rx. I guess it's not quite as good (innovative?) as his others, but standing alone, it is still near-perfect, IMO.
So Long
Bottle of Buckie annoys me slightly, only because of the fingerpicking and chord progression being indentical to a Goo Goo Dolls song that was on the radio like 8 years ago...
cryptique
I dunno, I just find the lyrics kind of annoying, I guess.Huh. I like the lyrics. Maybe it's my Scottish roots. Nine years down the road and I remember it still Standing on the corner back in Govanhill Nine days out from home, feeling no pain That northern city sun breaking through the rain That warmthless sun barely shining on Me and you and a bottle of Buckie  Nine years come and gone since I left you at home And this restless soul of mine had me starting to roam But the first time I stood by the banks of the Clyde I was so glad to have you standing back by my side I was so proud of what we were doing Me and you and a bottle of Buckie  Well, I knew by the dew in your starry eyes It was the day we both had studied for for all of our lives Whether bold missionaries, or a Children's Crusade No fear, pioneers, we were on our way And there never were nothin' that could get in our way Then the Neds, with their knuckles and their Burberry scarves They said, "How'd ye Jersey boys ever make it this far?" But you jumped in between and said, "Listen, my son
solace
i hate the chorus and i hate the lame/out place recorder/tin whistle solo besides that it'd be an ok song
mjpuczko
i just tune out that recorder solo. i really like that song & love the album. toro & the toreador is great
SarahC
i really dig it! got it this past tuesday... i like that it's a little bit softer than Shake the Streets, and the only song that really annoys me is "Bomb. Repeat. Bomb"...
Chendizzle
I love it, I love all things Ted Leo. The man can do no wrong in my eyes.
ms. yvon
i'm late to the party: picked up tyranny about a month ago after hearing about it for so long. I LOVE IT. am listening to the new album. bomb, repeat bomb is the only one so far that takes me out. i've been having that, "why haven't i been listening to this for years?" reaction to tyranny. quarter23cd
I think I just need to sit down and make a Ted Leo playlist. Each album has a handful of songs that blow me away and a bunch that leave me kind of cold. When he's on, he's amazing, but I don't think any of his albums could I point to and say I'm in love with the album as a whole.

quarter23cd
Â If "Stove By A Whale" were about three minutes shorter, that album would be flawless.I'm giving that album a spin right now, since so many people are raving about it here. I've had it for years, but I've always been one of those people who plays "Timorous Me", "Parallel or Together?" and "Stove By a Whale" (up until skip-button urges kick in) and then I move on to something else. "Under Your Hedge" used to annoy me, but listening to it today on headphones I'm digging the whole thing more as a whole than usual.
cryptique
I'm listening to it right now too.
