gogo
I didn't know it had ever been sponsored before, it's not generally on my radar. I just thought it sounded sort of off. And I like Dunkin' Donuts! (We don't have 'em out here. )

jhh4321
Its been DD for a while now, before that Ben and Jerry's. I went to this two years ago it was alright. A lot of its greatness lies in the town of Newport and the general vibe of the event. I'm kind of bummed that Morello is playing this because it means Rage won't be at Lollapalooza. Oh well. Oil Can Boyd
I didn't know it had ever been sponsored before From wikipedia: The Newport Folk Festival fell on hard times in the later 1960s, even closing its doors for a number of years, beginning in 1971, but was revived in 1985, and has since become one of the major folk music festivals in the United States, alongside the Philadelphia Folk Festival, which began in 1960. The festival has run without interruption ever since 1985, although in a different form from its 1960s heyday; the event has gone from not-for-profit to for-profit, the crowd has shrunk from 20,000 to 10,000 and evening concerts have been canceled. Furthermore, major sponsors have included Ben & Jerry's and Dunkin' Donuts (it is currently named the 'Dunkin' Donuts Newport Folk Festival'). In recent years, a multi-act bill, only loosely centered around folk music, has toured the US under the 'Newport Folk Festival' moniker.

Even though I knew this was going on (meaning, the festival), the contemporary incarnation really truly was never on my radar. When I hear "Newport Folk Festival", I think Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. tongue-tied
The dunkin donuts thing doesn't bother me, I believe the whole state of RI is run by them. The reserved seating is what sucks, gone is the art of planting yourself a good spot early or watching territory disputes between people's blankets, or weaseling your way to the front when your favorite act comes on.
