watch me fall
How do you know if you're a new fan or an old fan? I hate Steely Dan so I'd rather not be considered a new fan.

ction
what's the proper way to watch 'Sunken Treasure'? I watched it on the couch, awake for about 10 minutes and asleep for the rest. It was a GREAT nap. Jay Bennett You're an old fan. P.S. I was saying nice things about Mr. Bennett today while talking to caliber.

Tenderloin
dear ction, I always thought that a Wilco cover of "only a fool would say that" would be well suited. Is this appropriate? Would an "Alan Parsons Project" cover be more or less acceptable?

ction
I was gonna throw Renaissance Man in there too, but I hate misspelling big words (I'd hate to look foolish).

ction
I'm pretty sure that's what the residency shows would sound like, if I ever bothered to unzip the files I downloaded. To answer your original question though, no...not appropriate. No one should ever make music that sounds like that. Ever. They should, however, cover The Nils' song, "Fountains", during every show. ction
Seriously? That little parenthetical remark is my favorite thing I've posted here in a while. P.S. #99 - When listening to good Wilco albums, why not enjoy a snack of Nilla wafers, dipped into a tub of vanilla icing? It tastes good and it's healthy.

ction
As far back as page one of this thread, I admitted that enjoying Wilco on my terms isn't for everyone. It's kinda like the Navy SEALS...not everyone wants to live that kind of life, and even among those that do, not everyone has what it takes. But it's ok...the world needs cops and teachers and librarians and shit too.

ction
I recently created a 61 song Wilco playlist in iTunes. I listen to it at least once a month. It's how I'm currently enjoying Wilco. PM me if you are interested in creating your own mix based on mine - I'll let you know what songs to include. P.S. This playlist actually includes songs from the last two studio albums, even though they aren't my favorite. And that VW commerical jingle...the one that sounds like a cover of a soul song. I like that one a lot.
mpolak21
Dear ction, Long time listener, first-time caller. How excited should I be for the new Wilco release? Since I haven't heard it yet I can always imagine it may be a return to the band's earlier sound, yet realistically should I be bracing myself for another Steely Dan meets the Eagles collection to curb the disappointment I'd feel when I actually hear the record. Thanks, --Mike. (Another post W(TA) edit, even though this is obviously a fun thread, I don't like how snarky I come off, and quite honestly I fucking love Steely Dan-- I hope ction doesn't see this-- is there gas in the car? Yes there's gas in the car, and who am I to hate on anything Michael McDonald is involved with. As for the Eagles though complete and utter crap band, The Dude was right.) Thanks, --Mike. Dear Mike - Apparently, that song they played on the Colbert Report is going to be on the new album. Based on that fact alone, I'm pretty confident in predicting that the best part of the new album will be the unintentionally hilarious posts that will appear in this forum. You should be much more excited at the prospect of hearing the new/debut by The Obits which comes out later this month. Your pal, ction Dear Ction, Has your drastic weight loss affected the way that you enjoy wilco on your terms? --J.B. I'll tell you one thing, I sweat less now when gary and I make fun of them on IM, that's for sure.
