cryptique
I believe you're right. So clearly, the LSD didn't enhance his performance that much. I doubt the "doping" of the late '60s / early '70s was done with the intent to improve athletic performance.
caliber66
Oh, I agree. Just adding to the "drunks" angle. There was a bunch of coke going around in the 80s too, if I recall correctly. Pascual Perez, Daryl Strawberry, etc...

pillowy star
you posted a salmon recipe that had a marinade of soy sauce and maple syrup. Erm......unless someone hacked my account or I am already suffering from Alzheimer - NO . I don't like salmon that much so I never cook with it.
M. (hristine
you posted a salmon recipe that had a marinade of soy sauce and maple syrup.Dreamin' Judy posted it, and I can vouch for it's deliciousness: Maple Glazed Wild Pacific Salmon Marinade: 1 part soy sauce to 2-3 parts maple syrup (you can mess with the soy to maple ratio, depending on how sweet you want to go) Marinate wild salmon fillets for 24 hours, then coat one side with freshly cracked black peppercorns (and/or black sesame seeds, if you prefer). Throw it on the BBQ or bake in a preheated oven on highest temp for approx 7 min. Best enjoyed with a glass of pinot noir from the Okanagan Use wild, not farmed salmon. Always. Edit: this is M. M. (hristine
Right on. Mercury mania and fake pinkness. Blech. Also, these farmed salmon (a natural carnivore), are being bred to eat corn (the scourge of the earth). Just like farmed cattle (a grass ruminant) are having their bodies drugged into submission so that they can eat corn. Perhaps we could turn this into an M. (hris and fat.boy thread. SquashedFrog
More cheaters.... Italian team kicked out. "The Cofidis team pulled out of the Tour de France on Wednesday after rider Cristian Moreni of Italy failed a doping test and was led away by police at the end of the 16th stage." Cops actually escorted him off the course. Pretty awesome. The only way to clean this race is up is to limit the field solely to the French riders. It's their race and they are the only ones with the integrity and moral compass to not cheat.
anodyne
at this point, i'm considering entering next year, riding my son's 20" huffy bmx. if i finish, i'll likely win after the disqualifications.
OOO
Actually I heard that deodorant companies use the same chemicals in their product that make bikers test positive for dope. Which would explain why the french haven't been kicked out.

welch79
while this is sad and definitely giving the sport and the race a bad name, i think that they are taking steps in the right direction, having no tolerance for those discovered. it's either kick 'em out or allow doping. kick 'em out...even the leader, if he's guilty. Welsh Rich
^^^ That is very, very true... fucking hell, just when you think it can't get any more stupid. Cycling really know how to drag themselves through the mire.

Aeglos
shocking situation but its what has to happen to straighten the sport out Cadel Evans is back in the running now actually, with a TT showdown with Contador looking very intriguing
Spawn's dad
and what happens when they both get booted?
welch79
and what happens when they both get booted?then we'll put you in to straighten it all out. i'm with you aeglos...this weekend's time trial will be a great race between contador, evans and don't forget about leipheimer who is a pretty good time trialer. contador lost almost a minute, if not more, to evans in the last time trial, so it should be a real nail biter. of course i'll cheer for leipheimer (being american). i think contador may lack hard-earned experience, and should evans win, he would be the first aussie (as you know), but i'm a fan of any of those top three winning. welch79
incredible finish gosh yes. great race between the top three. i thought we were going to have a top 3 mix up but evans was able to conserve his lead over a charging leipheimer. below is a pretty good perspective of the clean riders within the peloton: Anger simmers in peloton over Tour scandalsBy Andrew HoodVeloNews European correspondentFiled: July 27, 2007 Riders are still steaming following a string of high-profile doping scandals that have threatened to push cycling over the edge of credibility in the eyes of the mainstream media. Emotions ran so high at Thursday's start in Pau that Dutch veteran Michael Boogerd actually tried punching a fan who was booing him before the sign-in podium. With the Tour decapitated of its yellow jersey Michael Rasmussen, the peloton is trying to get down to the business of racing bikes, but bitterness is still simmering under the surface. "I'm full with aggression and I want to get home. I don't care that these people are trying to wreck it for me. I can give two-shits about what these guys have done to us," said Christian Vande Velde (CSC). "I've trained my whole year for this race and I'm not about to give it up." Vande Velde voiced his frustration that the entire Tour peloton is being painted with the same brush as the riders getting caught in anti-doping controls. He pointed to Team CSC's extensive internal testing program as a way for cycling to regain credibility with fans and media. That didn't stop him from venting at alleged cheats like Alexandre Vinokourov and Cristian Moreni from putting a sour taste on his Tour de France. "I'm angry. We're trying to do everything we can to make a great race and there are still people who shit on the sport. Of course I'm angry," Vande Velde said. "At the same time I am going to try to be positive and make a great spectacle and a great race for myself. There's no reason we should be punished. I'm not trying to be a pessimist. I want to go forth." Discovery Channel captain George Hincapie said riders are playing "Russian roulette with their careers and our sport." "It's tough, you just wish people would do the right thing. I don't have all the answers to all the doping issues," Hincapie said. "All I can say is that I am clean, I work hard and I try to win races. I just hope that everyone can do it the clean way and stop being stupid."
