Sheffield is base ball old but still has speed and hits for power and average. Manny is on the "old" side of his career. Frank Thomas still produces. Thome to a much lesser extent still produces. Guys like Chipper Jones, Giambi, Delgado, Ordonez, Tejada.

Don't forget Chico Esquela.

Boris Karloff as "The Mummy" plays a better first base than Carlos Delgado.

See, for guys like Chico baseball has been berry, berry good to them. It can happen, folks!

I think I'm going to write to baseball-reference.com and ask them, as a prank next April 1, to post career stats for Chico Esquela and have his name appear on the "Players" front page under "E."

"Bad Stuff About the Mets"

Tadahito Iguchi traded for a single-A righty reliever from the Phils. Uh...I know they want to get Richar in the lineup and all (at least I hope that's what they're thinking), but a single A reliever is the best they can get for a bona fide starting second baseman?

Kenny......you're fired.

This puts a lot of pressure on Pedro Martinez to come back and not suck.

Rumors I am hearing (from various websites, that is):

Luis Castillo to the Mets.

Dotel to the Braves.

Dye to the Red Sox.

Contreras to the Greater Chicago Home for the Elderly.

Dye to Boston seems to be off the table, although he may still end up in Arizona.

I've also heard Dotel to the Dodgers or Mariners, Al Reyes to the Mariners, Clint Barmes to Detroit, Kyle Farnsworth to Detroit, and Johnny Damon to Baltimore, although that last rumor seems to have died before it really got off the ground.

I agree that actual malice is necessary to win but not that he should only sue if he can win.

there is no downside to suing (which obviously helps p.r.) if you feel wronged, even if the ultimate legal standard is challenging.

bonds does not sue because the truth is an absolute defense not that he is worried about whether the facts can establish actual malice.

Sorry to resurrect the Bonds issue, but didn't he admit to using certain steroids in the grand jury testimony? Isn't this enough evidence? And reason for him to not proclaim his innocence?

He admitted using substances that he claims he did not know were steroids. The book details his steroid use in a far more detailed way, and in such a way that would make it impossible for him to not know that they were steroids. His claim of being innocent contradicts the book quite a bit, but is not in contradiction to his testimony.

I don't know too much about Luis Castillo, but he is now the second baseman for the Mets.

Excellent defensive second baseman. Nice patience. Above average speed. No pop.

I hate that he's with the Mets now. He was one of my favorite Marlins ever...

Yes. He's being touted as a significant upgrade over Valentin or Gotay. We shall see. I think the matter will hinge upon Pedro Martinez. If he does not win some games against Atlanta ...
