A 56-year old ex-con with a violent past is a "person of interest" but not being called a suspect in the case of a missing mother who moonlighted as a professional escort, authorities told FOXNews.com Saturday.

Mesa County Sheriff's spokesperson Heather Gierhart confirmed that Lester Ralph Jones has been named a person of interest in the June 28 disappearance of Paige Birgfeld and that police have searched his home twice, but said she could not confirm "any correlation" between the search of his home and the investigation into Birgfeld's disappearance.

"There are no suspects at all," Gierhart said. "There is a list of people of interest."

Birgfeld's two ex-husbands remain on this list, although authorities "believe their alibis," Giehart said.

She could not confirm that the two search warrants executed at a home Jones shares with his current wife, Elaine Jones, was related to his possible involvement with Birgfeld.

Gierhart said authorities were "not talking about" whether the police have interviewed, or have had any other contact with Jones in relation to the case. Although photographs of Jones

Sadly, this sort of thing happens daily to women in the sex trade. I suppose only FAUX News would turn this into a lurid tale of sensational intrigue.

I'm no apologist for Fox News, but aren't you jumping the gun a bit here? Only Fox News is making a story out of this?

No, I suppose not. FOX was the source quoted and the OP is I believe from N.Europe so I was just making a general observation. I wasn't really sure why he even posted this. Or why I felt compelled to respond.

In Canada the stories of missing women receive occasional attention...sometimes. It's a national disgrace as far as I'm concerned. Missing native Indian women in particular receive almost no media attention.

i have a lot of friends who have worked in legal sex businesses and have heard second hand a lot of horror stories that run under the radar of news reports. sex workers have very dangerous occupations and society doesn't seem to care (yet society employs an awful lot of people in these industries so someone's keeping them in business).

i have no love or respect for faux news' "journalism". i'm glad that someone or anyone in the mainstream press is paying attention.

OP is from upstate New York.

OP is me? OK, then. Despite my Nordic screen name, which has nothing to do with anything related to Scandinavia, I am from Upstate New York and I am a media professional. I posted the above thing because it is what we in the trade call a "holy shit" story; i.e., it makes you go "holy shit!" when you read it. Neither I nor any other journalist today has figured out how to make people care about things they don't really care about, a category which seems to include missing women who aren't white and middle class or richer. (I tried to get reporters at my old paper to do a story on why nobody gives a crap when black or poor women go missing, but nobody gave a crap.) For most of the American public, it seemed outrage died in the mid-70s. Vietnam and Watergate pretty much knocked it out of us. And as the media in this country are commercial enterprises, we end up focusing on stuff that people respond to with their wallets, i.e., Lindsay Lohan.

Bag of feces shuts Fargo pool

The largest pool in the state's largest city was shut down on one of the hottest days of the year after vandals tossed a large bag of fecal matter into the water.

A swim team noticed the problem at the Island Park pool when they arrived to practice on Wednesday morning, park district officials said. The bag likely contained dog or other animal waste, officials said.

Dave Klundt, assistant director of recreation, said the vandals "may think it's a funny prank, but they don't understand they're displacing a lot of people on a hot day."

The temperature had reached 95 degrees on Wednesday afternoon.

Klundt said workers used 42 gallons of a chemical and water solution to disinfect the pool. The process takes 12 to 18 hours, he said.

About 750 people visited the Island Park pool on Monday, parks district officials said. Three other public pools in the city have been at or near capacity this week.

I can safely tell you from my 5 years of lifeguarding, we love to shut the pool down because of poop. There was even one summer where one employee was tired of working that day and tried to recreate caddyshack and threw in a baby ruth and then tried to claim it was poop. He was let go that day.

I'm pretty sure they understand exactly what they're doing, and that's why they think it's funny.

"You mean the flaming dog poop got all over somebody's shoe? Oh wow, we hadn't thought it through that far. We're really sorry, man".
