El Picador
Rush - Hollywood Bowl - 7/23/07 Set One Introduction Video - Dream Sequence with Alex and Neil followed by Geddy and his Scottish Counterpart Limelight Digital Man Entre Nous Mission Freewill The Main Monkey Business The Larger Bowl (with Bob & Doug McKenzie introduction) Secret Touch Circumstances Between The Wheels Dreamline Set Two Introduction Video - The Alex/Leela Board Rant Far Cry Workin' Them Angels Armor And Sword Spindrift The Way The Wind Blows Subdivisions Natural Science Witch Hunt Malignant Narcissism Drum Solo Hope Distant Early Warning The Spirit of Radio Tom Sawyer (with South Park/Lil' Rush introduction) Encore One Little Victory A Passage to Bangkok YYZ This was my 4th time to see Rush and although I don't listen to their music much these days, I will always find time to catch them live. I hadn't heard their new album and, like 99% of the crowd, I was there to see them play the classics. I must say, they're new tunes kicked some serious ass. Highlights of the show were older tunes like "Entre Nous" and "Natural Science" from the "Permanent Waves" album, "Between the Wheels" from "Grace Under Pressure", "Mission" from "Hold Your Fire" and "Witch Hunt" from "Moving Pictures". The new tunes that stood out were "Armor and the Sword" and "Secret Touch". Of course the classics like "Spirit of Radio", "Tom Sawyer", "YYZ" and "Subdivisions" were all played well and got the crowd on their feet and playing air drums/guitar. The opener of "Limelight" was a welcome surprise.
mountain bed
Thanks for the review El P! I've caught Rush many many times since '78 & they are one of the best, tightest live acts around. The new record is pretty damn good imo but it's nice to see stuff like Subdivisions & Distant Early Warning still getting aired out. A good friend of mine caught the tour on the East Coast a month or so ago & said Natural Science totally kicked his ass. His favorite part of the show. I'm looking forward to the Deer Creek show in August!
Analogman
I read somewhere that the album is not selling - but the tour is doing well. I would like to see them someday.
El Picador
A good friend of mine caught the tour on the East Coast a month or so ago & said Natural Science totally kicked his ass. His favorite part of the show. This was the highlight for me as well. This show was a lot different from the show I saw in 2004. At that show they played a lot of the more jammy stuff like 2112, Xanadu and La Villa Strangiato. But even though I love those songs I felt this show was better. I was also really happy they played Entre Nous. Even though this came out on a record released 27 years ago, they didn't start playing it live until this tour. Alex Lifeson played acoustic and electric guitar on it.

There are more titles on the setlist that I don't recognize than those I do. But I haven't seen them for many years and am seriously thinking about catching an upcoming date in town. This convinces me that much more I need to go. Cheers
jff
I saw them in Atlanta last month (first date of their tour). Same setlist, except instead of Distant Eary Warning they played Summertime Blues. They seem to be switching those two songs out, but keeping everything else the same. I'm sure their lights, lasers and videos prevent them from changing thier show from night to night. I enjoyed the show, but I still think the Vapor Trails tour (2002?) was the best of the four times I've seen them. This tour is VERY heavy on new material. Nine songs from the new album is quite a lot for a band with 33 years worth of albums.
Analogman
I'd like to hear them do Here Again>Before and After>2112 Overture.
mountain bed
When they did the '97 tour the played the ENTIRE 2112 suite for the first time in 20 years. Nearly all of the Elwood contingent was there for that. It was like a family reunion. About a half-dozen of us (who had been seeing Rush together since high school) were on the lawn. Good times! I think the best show I ever saw of these guys was the Permanent Waves tour in '80. They did Cygnus X-1> Cygnus X-1 (Book Two) Hemispheres AND the very best thing: By-Tor & The Snow Dog>Xanadu...Alex let the e-string ring out in the 'space' section of By-Tor & it segued perfectly in to Xanadu. Man, I would LOVE to have a sbd of that tour!
quarter23cd
I think Rush is the last show scheduled at the big shed here this summer before they tear it down to build condos. I haven't listened to them much in a very long time but always wanted to see them live at least once. Might have to consider it. Thanks for the review!
jff
When they did the '97 tour the played the ENTIRE 2112 suite for the first time in 20 years. Did they include the part where they discover the "strange device" (guitar) in a cave and have no idea what it is? That'd be hilarious to see. I always assumed they skipped that part when playing it in concert.

That, and the meeting with the Oracle were passed over for years when 2112 was played. But I guess for the 20th anniversary of the tune they decided to bring the whole shebang back. I'd prefer they stick to indoor venues, though. It's still light out in Atlanta when their first set ends. They incorporate a lot of lasers, video production, etc into their showes, so that gets screwed up when it's light out.

snow
This is my first post and I just want to say WOW, I come to the Wilco forum for some Wilco info and find Rush fans. Nice to meet you all. I was able to see them back to back in Seattle and then the next night in Portland and they were great. If you have the chance to see them on this tour then please do. It is a real treat and they seem to be having a great time up there. Personally I don't think you could ask for a better set list. They really dug deep to pull out some great old songs. Tonight I just had the chance to see Wilco for the first time and they blew me away as well. What a great summer it has been for shows. I have been a long time Wilco fan but I never got a chance to see them live until tonight. So I am hooked. It can't get any better then Rush and Wilco!!!!!!!
mountain bed
I saw the show at Deer Creek Sunday night & it was just a wonderful time. The setlist was nearly the same as the one El P posted ( with a couple of exceptions) but that wasn't what the night was about for me. Counting the (sober) wives, there were 15 of my closest friends sitting together out on the lawn for this show. A half-dozen of us were the "Rush heads" (back in the '70's) in my little town of 9000. We saw the tours together from '78-'82 & everyone was able to make it. My pal Garcia even came all the way from SC to be there! To have your oldest buddies all hanging together, singing along, playing air guitar, etc... well it was too much! Way way cooler than a class reunion. If I never go to "The Creek" again the last one will always be a very special time for me.

We too were reliving our youth. We all saw Rush together back in the 80s. We're all a lot older now but that band still puts on a great show.
