ction
I DVR'd this, but still managed to catch about 10 minutes (focusing on Stax's 1967 European tour, Otis at Monterey Pop and his tragic death). The live footage I saw is absolutely amazing, and it was the first time I'd ever seen Otis' widow interviewed. Check your local PBS station's schedule if you're interested - I know they are going to be replaying this a bit.
embiggen
I saw some of this last night. pretty excellent footage. I loved the story of how Otis was discovered. a must see. :thumbup
jff
PBS has been kicking ass with the documentaries lately. Even the ones on subjects I have no interest in at all (hair shows, synchronized swimming) have been well done and entertaining. The Les Paul doc they aired a couple weeks ago was outstanding. The ferret one was kind of dull, but I only saw the last 30 minutes which focused more on the owners & ferret competition award ceremonies (where everyone seems to win) than the ferrets themselves. stooka
..............Ya'll are hilarious!! I wish I would have caught that. Any footage of Rufus or Carla Thomas? I saw some show a while back about Memphis music . Looks like life rode Carla hard - she could still sing though, but when a dude in the restaurant handed her a dollar bill and she took it, it broke my heart.
Lammycat
I forgot to tivo the thing. It's a series, correct?

IATTBYB
That was a great documentary. How about all bling Isaac Hayes had. Damn he was fly!Although I only caught a few minutes of the doc last night, the footage of Issac Hayes at WattsStax may have been the greatest thing I have ever seen on TV. You know you are a Bad Mutha when you have the Rev. Jesse Jackson remove your chapeau on stage.

I highly recommend checking this out too: I hope the documentary gets a super deluxe DVD release with lotsa extras!
Adam2
i thought the footage of Isaac Hayes was completely ridiculous. "Black Moses"... give me a break. quite frankly I don't think he's that great. They should have spent much more time on the label's early/best years instead of so much time on the later years.
