so i leave Mpls at 4pm and it's about 95... about 40 miles out of Duluth i see fog & clouds rolling in and notice the outside temp on my gauge drop to about 65 in a matter of probably 15-20 miles. it was probably no warmer than mid 50's when Wilco went on (if not colder)

ridiculous fog rolling off Lake Superior for tonights show, but it made for a pretty memorable time and at least the rain held off, it was mostly just high winds, fog, and some misting.

setlist the best i can recall (order is off after a bit but i think i got all the songs at least):

Either Way

You Are My Face

I Am Trying To Break Your Heart

Handshake Drugs

Pot Kettle Black

Side With The Seeds

War On War

Hummingbird

Jesus, Etc.

Impossible Germany

Too Far Apart

A Shot In The Arm

Walken

I'm The Man Who Loves You

Encore:

California Stars (w/ Alan & Mimi from Low)

Hesitating Beauty

Red Eyed and Blue->I Got You

I'm Always In Love

Outta Mind (Outta Site)

Encore 2:

Misunderstood

Heavy Metal Drummer

Spiders (Kidsmoke) (seemed reaaaaallly really long)

more tomorrow, i'm tired as hell :sleepy

I agree 100% Solace. The best of the 6 Wilco shows I've seen. The fog and cold made it a bit reminiscent of Pearl Jam at alpine (2002 maybe). I am trying to put together a little play by play but haven't got the time yet. But if anyone has pics, I would looooove to see them. Thanks.

i know someone who shot with a nice DSLR, i'll link to them when his review is up.oh yeah, Nels sat in with Low on lap steel on their first song. There was a lot of good natured ribbing of Nels and the whole chicken pox deal by the crowd and even Jeff. someone had made shirts that sayd "Nels Cline Gave Me Chicken Pox" with a cute little cartoon chicken w/ pox. Nels got one even :).

This was an awesome show. This was the second time for me this summer (first was Davenport, IA), and this blew that show away. I somehow lucked into being front and center, even after getting there shortly before 5. I was totally amazed that there wasn't more of a line, but hey, I'll take it. I'll have pics up sometime today. I went crazy and took a shitload, figuring, "how often am I going to be in this location?". It made my four hour drive and pulling into my driveway at 3 AM very worth it.

Low was also very good, and it was nice that they got a respectful audience in their hometown, because in Davenport the exact opposite was the case. I was really looking forward to seeing Richard Swift, but Low made up for it as much as they could.

First, that shirt looks like it's awesome.

Second, if Low would have played Canada, they would have played all my favorite songs of theirs.

Finally, I've been to 5 Wilco shows and have NEVER heard any of the songs they played in the first encore. And my two classes yesterday were utter BS, so I could have at least skipped those (today's classes, not so sure, but w/e) and seen this sweet, sweet show.

Hey....Brettac1...I'm the guy to the right on picture #83. I think i saw you taking all the pictures...i was the other guy taking pictures. Great show, Never been to any like it. the weather sucked but it became part of the show...at times it acted as an instrument all its own.....surreal background...only the weathered die hard fans would appreciate.

I think this link will work.

Oh yeah, I saw you there. I really wanted to get some sweet Pat rockin' out pics, but I failed for the most part. He's got Pete Townshend rock moves.

The only thing that was pretty lame was when all those kids suddenly came up to the front right before Wilco's set started, I thought skulls were going to need some busting. But, I think for the most part they didn't cut in front of many of the diehards that were there right when the gates opened (all 10 of us or so). They did pull that cord off the front of the stage, and they also dumped a beer that got landed on a guy who I had talked to quite a bit's pants. I really was hoping that kind of garbage wouldn't happen at a Wilco show, but, it was GA, so there's always some of that nonsense in that situation. Nothing could ruin seeing my favorite band from the front row, though, not even a collection of drunk morons.

I thought the weather was awesome. It was brutal when we were waiting for the show to start (which resulted in a $45 sweatshirt purchase from the merch stand), though, but once some windblockers arrived to the left of us, it was good, and for the most part once the sun went down the wind let up a little. It definitely was surreal, to see all that mist in the background, especially when they had the blue lighting going on. Totally a one of a kind experience, with one of a kind Duluth weather.

I find it hilarious that a bunch of people still call what they've been playing as Outta mind (Outtasite)..

Come on folks, the loud rockin version is Outtasite (Outta Mind)

Kev

that's why you're happy kev

Yep, those drunk guys were right next to me and my wife....what a moron. I was doing everything in my power not to punch the guy and throw him to the back...but I knew nothing good would come of it anyhow. I also accurately predicted that that guy was going to crash shortly since the one guy seemed to have little experience in the state of drunkeness. My wife yelled at him to stop waving his arms and getting in the way...he kind of backed off and the other drunk moron with him kind of disappeared and smoked a joint. Later, the one obnoxious guy was blankly staring into nothingness. How the hell do you enjoy a wilco show like that?? Besides that...Wilco fans are the best out there.

Oh yeah, I saw the guy just staring. He actually cut in front of us after the rest of his group was up there, and I was like "what are you doing?" and he said "I'm just going over by those guys" and I said "don't go in front of that short girl (who was actually first in line to get in), if you wanted to be up here you should have been here at 5:00".

Once he didn't even respond to that, I figured he was just wasted. I have no idea how you can enjoy the show in that state. He probably doesn't even remember what is likely to be one of the best shows he'll attend.

Otherwise, no doubt that Wilco fans are the best. I talked to a whole bunch of cool people last night.

These are great to read, and thanks for the great links! I had tix to the original show but couldn't make it back last night. I saw that Nels shirt online a couple of weeks ago and considered getting it since I did "catch" his pox.

So glad it was a great time in Duluth--it always is up there!

The Duluth Wilco show just rocked! It was a surreal exprerience with the freaky blowing misty weather and then having the band sort of just lean into it. Then, how about the 1000 foot laker drifting along the venue and then under the bridge out to Lake Superior during the show. We were standing about twenty yards back and center and heard someone say this was the best concert they'ed ever seen. It was just a lot of fun despite, (because of?) the elements.
