General Comments:

As obviously music is a matter of subjective taste, let me just state that I don’t care for Paul Stacey (guitar) or Adam MacDougall (keyboards) in this band. I’m sure that Paul is a fine player, and he seemed technically proficient, but to me his playing added nothing to the songs. Then again, I probably would have a hard time accepting anyone other than Marc Ford in that role. I just love to watch the guy play.

McDougall is another story. He just flat butchered some tunes in my opinion. Eddie Harsch just always seemed to float in the right notes in the right tone at the right time. I just couldn’t hear that with Adam. I hear he is the newest edition, so I will respectfully hold out hope that he’s just finding his groove with the material (Stacey as well)—but I guess that’s my essential problem with the show: I felt like the whole experience was a test run. I was maybe 30 feet from Rich Robinson for about 75% of the show and when he was not focusing on playing he was staring over at Stacey or MacDougall. Sometimes he seemed to be trying to instruct them, other times he seemed flat out disappointed.

The Black Crowes I saw in the 90s just came out and blew the doors off. I never had that feeling last night, the one exception being “Gone,” just because I love the damn song so much. This is a show where I think being a musician really ruined the experience for me. The college buddy who went with me (along with my wife and his fianc

I saw them in Grant Park this year during the Taste and you can read my review on my blog at lastwaltzer.blogspot.com as I say in the review it felt like a greatest hits show not a band activley trying to take their music somehwere.

That's too bad. I saw the Crowes about a half dozen times in the 90s and I too was always blown away. Hubby and I had considered going to see them on this tour, but I can't even imagine them without Ford. Even on paper, this has always appeared to be a last ditch, please-don't-let-us-slip-away-into-nothingness effort.

Wiser Time has also always been one of my favorite songs; I hope you can remember more of the kick ass versions of it and drown out last night's.

porngoggler: have you ever listened to the "Soul Singing" from Freak & Roll: Into The Fog (or seen the dvd, for that matter)? Shot/recorded at the San Fran Fillmore a couple years ago.

Imo, one of the best versions they've done. Amazing.

I haven't. I'll check it out. I've been wanting to see that dvd. Is Marc in that set?

hmmm... i'm supposed to see them tomorrow night w/Cross Canadian Ragweed... maybe i can scalp a cheap ticket... it seems like there's a revolving door in the band now - some new member every year or so...

Hopefully the show I attended was a fluke. Let us know.

Yeah, Marc is in the band and there's some decent footage of backstage/other crap too besides the playing. And yeah, they've got just the cd, too.

ed. Oops. I see A-man addressed this.

It's weird looking - filmed in HD or whatever it is.

The backstage and street scenes stuff is a little weird, yeah. It's like a bit "off" in slo-mo or something, it seems.

The concert footage is excellent, though. No obnoxious camera tricks or anything; just nice shots of the band in their element. Really, they're sounding fantastic for this show. The Left Coast Horns add just the right amount to the tunes, too. A few acoustic numbers, as well.

Marc Ford interview -Telluride Blues & Brews 9-15-07

I felt it necessary to shut down the official board in order to preserve the integrity of the loyal, well mannered and very together Black Crowes fans who saw more than just a messageboard at our home, Amorica.org.

Since the board's inception we have seen many ups and downs, but in line with my brilliant managament tactics and techniques through the years, I felt it was time to lay the messageboard to rest in order to preserve its legacy.

It pains me to alienate so many fans who have their lives together and always wanted to talk about The Black Crowes and the music in general.

As I am sure you have seen through the last few years, Amorica.org has been a haven for harmless degenerates who just wanted another communication channel other than email to discuss everything not related to the Black Crowes.

Broadcasting their everyday lives was such a sight to see, that it truly pains me to no longer expose Black Crowes fans to these great, prolific stretches in online Black Crowes history.

I wish all Amorica.org subscribers well, especially the fans with over 10,000 posts of utter garbage and sillines that only a college psychology introductory course could truly benefit from.

Angelus Entertainment is proud to announce the closing of the offical Black Crowes messageboard and we here look forward to seeing you in Atlanta, for two isolated Chris and Rich Robinson shows next month.

As always, we plan on keeping the fans wondering what is going on with the Black Crowes. Afterall, as I did with Van Halen, the element of surprise remains the secret weapon of rock and roll management.

Cheers!

Pete Angelus
