DrNo
I love Wilco (they've been my favorite band for over a decade, after all) but I left this show early to go up stairs and see the Bowerbirds. Honestly I'm not in love with Sky Blue Sky, and the Palladium really doesn't do it for me. Kind of like seeing a band play in an airplane hangar. Granted, I was tired from being out late the night before, but overall I just wasn't inspired. Perhaps it's because they opened with "Shake It Off," possibly my least favorite Wilco song ever. Or perhaps it's because the Will Rogers show last year was transcendent. Or perhaps I think that the counting of "nothings" is getting out of hand ("Misunderstood" sounds a lot better with only 4--sorry.) Anyway, all that being said--I couldn't wipe the smile off my face for the entirety of "Just That Simple".

stevietheb
Or perhaps I think that the counting of "nothings" is getting out of hand ("Misunderstood" sounds a lot better with only 4--sorry.)I tend to agree with this...I usually skip "Misunderstood" when I'm listening to Kicking Television. This was my first time to get out to see Wilco. Totally hooked. I'm a fan of pretty much everything...old and new...definitely a great night!

I was on the edge and the sound sucked along with the people overtalking the music in the beer line.
thejokeexplained
Agree on the Palladium. I was on the edge and the sound sucked along with the people overtalking the music in the beer line. Standing in or by a beer line on the side of a stack as opposed to between the stacks will suck in any venue. It was my first time there and from the way my tape turned out from in front of the board the sound was better than any Dallas venue i have seen them preform going back to 1999. Not only was the sound great but the staff was friendly and the Beer was only four bucks, five if you wanted a Shiner and they put them in plastic cups so you didn't hear that clank of bottles hitting the floor! I also saw the Arctic Monkeys there last night and it sounded just as good and my experience with the venue staff was just as good as it was two nights earlier with Wilco

countryfeedback
Awesome night!!!!They could have stopped after It's Just That Simple and I would have went home a happy man. I will need to add them playing this to the "last time Wilco surprised you" thread. Never saw it coming. Not to sound selfish, but I do hope that this was a one time deal, so I can tell my kids about it someday. Or to just brag about it to my Austin friends who failed to make the trip. I agree with the earlier post in which the show started off slow. Shake it Off is not the best choice for an opening song, at least they got it out of the way early. Like most Wilco shows, the crowd gets progressively younger (Iam only 30 but have been listening since their incarnation, so I guess Iam a little biased.) I was about ten feet back from the stage, in front of Nels Cline (I was the tall dude in the SF Giants hat bopping up and down like a ten year old.) I must admit that it becomes less exciting as years progress as the crowd fails to know the words to older material. I had to laugh when Jeff asked if anyone recognized Too Far Apart. I felt quite self-concsious being the only one around me in a ten foot radius singing along to every word. But oh well. The crowd did get into it as the night wore on. It's hard not too, when their playing songs like End of the Century and Outta Mind Outta Site. That being said, the crowd was having a good time and I think everyone went home happy. Nice venue. Without question, the biggest venue I have ever seen Wilco play (not counting Retama Park in San Antonio when they opened up for REM or the ACL fests.) Sound was very good from my post. Reasonably priced beer and booze. My Jack & Cokes were quite stiff for only $5. Cant complain about that. I dug Dr. Dog. Thay had about two or three songs that had "single" written all over them. I predict we will hear big things from them in the future. Nice jangly 60's style pop with three part harmonies. At least one of the songs had some Crazy Horse type guitar soloing in it. Probably my favorite Wilco opener to date, even better than Calexico's set in Austin a few years back. BTW. Would it be possible for someone to post this on yousendit. I have had trouble with the other sites.

My best friend from from STL was with me in Dallas and A.M. is his favorite Wilco record, so between Too Far Apart, Just That Simple, and Casino Queen on Sunday at ACL, I think he could have died and gone to heaven.
