A man walked into Hillary Clinton's campaign office in Rochester, N.H., this afternoon with what looked like a bomb strapped to his body and is holding two volunteer hostage, according to police and a campaign official.

The man walked into the office on North Main Street at about 12:55 p.m., said Captain Anthony Colarusso of the Dover Police Department, which is part of a regional tactical response team. Police have been in contact with the man inside the office, Colarusso said.

Bill Shaheen, a top state campaign official, said that the man was holding two volunteers hostage, according to the Associated Press.

Rochester police Captain Paul Callahan said in a live interview on New England Cable News that police received a call just after 1 p.m.

"Right now we are handling this as a hostage situation," Callahan said.

Callahan would not say whether the person was a man or a woman, had a weapon, or how many people were being held hostage. Clinton is not in New Hampshire today. She is scheduled to speak at the Democratic Party's annual fall meeting in Vienna, Va.

Rochester is about 20 miles north of Portsmouth near the Maine border.

According to television reports, police are lining both sides of North Main Street. Several officers are crouched behind police cruisers with guns drawn. Nearby businesses have been evacuated.

Workers for Senator Barack Obama's campaign office in Rochester also were evacuated, a campaign spokesman said. The office is four doors away from Clinton's. John Edwards' staffers also were evacuated.

Rest assured, right-wing "hate radio" and the accompanying vast conpiracy will to be to blame... in classic Clinton fashion.

Why do you hate America?

Wow it only took one post...now I'm waiting anxiously for the "It's Clintons fault..." stuff to start arriving.

Sounds like the hostages are now free and the guy who is the perp is a local nut, but those are preliminary reports, who knows what the real truth will be.

so you're making fun of the Clinton campaign while some supporters are in danger?

I guess I'm the only Wilco fan old enough to remember what transpired after the OK city bombing... while people were still fighting for their lives in the hospital... bodies being pulled from the rubble. Class.

Yeah, I remember OKC. If I recall correctly everyone assumed immediately that it must have been middle eastern terrorists. In actuallity it was McVeigh and Nichols, part of a radical right-wing militia group that aimed to overthrow the government.

So, yeah... vast right-wing conspiracy sounds about right.

Don't be so presumptuous.

In the end people matter, not politics.

Hope everyone is okay.

This is why I like you.
