Marah - Angels of Destruction

Recommended Posts

I listened to this album streaming on their website the other day and it did nothing for me. I was really excited when If You Didn't Laugh... came out--it's definitely their their best record behind Kids in Philly and Let's Cut the Crap. Besides the possible exception of Ryan Adams I'm not sure if there's another group/artist out there that's disappointed me more over the years, however. I mean, Float Away isn't just bad for by their standards--it was one of the worst albums I've ever listened to.

Due to personal issues within the band, Marah have made the difficult decision to postpone their January and February US tour dates. They hope to reschedule the tour for later in the year and will make sure to keep their fans posted.

sucks...hope it has nothing to do with Dave's sobriety. At any rate, selfishly, I'm kind of glad it was postponed as I'll be out of town when they are in the immediate area. I hate missing those guys coming through Chicago or surrounding areas.

Rumor has it that it is not a substance type thing, rather than Dave and Serge being given an ultimatum of some sort from the other members that the boys just did not want to accomodate. This was posted by Dave Bielanko today:

From myspace blog:

Hey Everybody,

The News:

Yes, Marah has recently gone through some personnel changes and we will do our best to reschedule these American tour dates as soon as we possibly can

not that i never felt he and Serge were Marah, that still kinda bugs me

Don't let it bug you. Thats a good thing. This is the guy who started the band, writes almost all of the songs. i.e., the man with the vision. Anybody who thinks there is such thing as a democratic band is highly delusional. Every band needs a leader.

no i know, but i guess i've just been burned by a few artists who have the mentality of "it's not working... better clean house" (i'm looking at you Ben Harper :brow )

oh well, time will tell what will happen i suppose.

Sounds strangely familiar...

I'm sorry, let me correct myself: Every circle needs a center! :shifty

I'm coming around on Angels of Destruction, but still the only track that really grabs me is the title tune. I'm also a little nervous about the shake-up, but I'm hoping for the best.

I've been liking it more with every listen. I love Marah but each album (kids in philly exception) has a couple of "skippers" on it. I'm liking all of the songs thus far and lyrically it is very strong.

agree

i'm a little confused here though

the guys from adam & dave's bloodline were supposed to be marah's latest band -- i thought they just hooked up in the past few months?

now they're out?

they were also going to open all the shows?

i think marah has had more members than parliament

when they first hit philly, they just exploded with life. been disappointment after disappointment since

no, they joined a few years ago... 2004 maybe? i forget the first time i saw Adam & Dave w/ Marah... and Bloodline opened the last Marah show i saw in 2005 or so.

Only listened once through, as I was going to sleep last night (ipod), but I think I heard at least 2-3 really good tracks on this one. Interesting band.
