were tapers present

And you felt strongly enough about his two cents, that you needed to add your two cents?

Let's not make this a big thing. In general, yes, if there's already a thread on a show, you'll usually find info in there about whether or not the show was taped, and if not, that's a good place to ask the question. It does keep the board tidier, and sometimes moderators will step in and merge a thread that's directly related to another thread.

Just another suggestion: the more specific you can be in a thread title, the easier that makes it for people to decide whether or not they want to open the thread. So in this forum, a date or location in the thread title is really helpful.

Whats the big deal about starting a thread like this?

say you dont want to sift through a thread to find out if somebody pointed out if tapers were in fact present or not, a thread like this is a quick simple solution.

If you look in the bottom left corner of a thread, you will see a search box.

You have to figure that most shows are taped these days - although, I see the point of your question.

Someone will post about a show being available for downloading - when it becomes available.

It's not a terribly big deal to start a thread like this. But as I mentioned earlier, it's more an issue of trying to keep the board tidy, and not start multiple threads about the same thing. It's not like the thread for this show is terribly huge, to the point where it would be at difficult to find that information.

And as Analogman points out, if/when a show is available, there's usually a thread about that in the trading section. So that's already two places where this information can be found, or will eventually be able to be found.

I'll never understand why people give a flying hell when other people start redundant threads or whatever. It just baffles me.

I'll never understand why people don't search or post their question in a thread that already exists - if it fits. It's a pretty standard practice - out there - from what I can see. Also, it helps when one does search for something.

I've never understood those who can't read the title of a thread and post the appropriate response.

I'm repeating myself now, but: starting multiple threads on substantially similar topics actually makes it more difficult to find information in the long run. There's a reason that moderators have the ability to merge threads. When the board isn't cluttered with redundant threads, it's a much easier place to navigate.

There is a search function on this board for a reason. And if you can't find an answer to a question about a specific show by reading the thread or using that function, then it makes sense to ask that question in the thread for that show. That way, if someone else has the same question, they will be able to find the answer in that thread. Starting two threads, one right on top of the other, for the same show, pretty much guarantees that one of them will sink, and any information in that thread will be more difficult to locate.

That is the only reason that people direct thread-starters to previous threads on the same topic. No one is trying to be pissy or superior about this, it's to streamline the flow of information. Also, if the prior thread was much older and the current thread-starter couldn't find it for whatever reason, often there is information in that earlier thread that will be of interest to people posting in the new one.

So much for "let's not make this a big thing". :huh

Several reasons: (1) refusing to follow board rules or moderators' requests, even though someone agrees to do so when they sign up for the board, is rude and inconsiderate, not to mention flat out wrong; (2) it sucks having to weed through 50 of the same threads to get to the one thread in which you care to post; (3) it takes more effort to complain about those that want to keep the board clean and tidy than it does to use the search function; and (4) did I mention that it's rude and inconsiderate when someone's asked nicely not to post the same or related things in separate threads yet refuse not to do so?

The way I see it, it's pretty simple. If someone either doesn't like or refuses to follow the board rules or moderators' requests, no one's forcing them to post here.

Where's the official thread for busting on IRDB??

Although I disagree with the belittling and/or insulting comments directed your way (as well as others on here), and have actually spoken up for you, you should think before you post sometimes.

You just need to tone it down and think a little bit. If you constantly start threads in the non-umm sections and POST IN ALL CAPs, and whatnot - you become a target. It's cool to be excited - I can dig that. I am trying to help you out here - not put you down.
