DanTheMan
I feel a little guilty as the last time I posted here was just after the last time I saw Wilco (last year). Not to worry, it was another mind-blowing gig tonight. A completely different set list to last time, with some particular crackers from A.M. and Being There. The lengthy encore was absolutely perfect - the highlight for me was 'Monday' as I'd requested it online. A fairly low-key beginning built into an absolutely triumphant finale. DanTheMan
Remember the Mountain Bed Ah hah. The only record I don't own.
Aeglos
odd concert because the encores were very disappointing for me faux-Stones straight as an arrow 'rockers' aren't a patch on Future Age > Spiders or ... hell i dunno, Lonely 1, Pieholden, Wishful Thinking (anything but I Got You, sorry)

Lynch
I think that is a great setlist. Would love to see all those Being There tunes for an encore. That is the first Wilco record I bought when it came out and has huge sentimental value to me.
mpolak21
Nice to see Reservations getting some love, and it looks like a great set. I kind of liked the band's two encore system where they'd usually play more introspective slower songs in the first encore leading up to Spiders or even Not For The Season back in 2002/2003, and then in the second encore they'd play the Being There rockers, I'm A Wheel, and The Late Greats. I really like Hummingbird as a closer also. --Mike
kungfuonion
i would have lost it for reservations if i had have been there. the impromptu palais version was terrific.
froggie
looking good for next week down here Brianne, did you guys bump into the band members at all to give them a surprise?
disco-aussie-wilco
awesome show last night ... i preffered it to the ktv esque show we got last time. highlights for me were: reservations - Nothing'severgonnastandinmyway(again) - and Moutain Bed soooooo much fun
ray
It was a great show... except there were some weirdos in the audience... one guy in particular, insisted on improvising his own handclaps to every song (including some attempts at adding handclaps to Jesus, etc and Pick Up The Change!). That kinda spoiled it for me, and he was pushing people left, right and center and forcing his way into the crowd. Also, I don't know if it was just the sound right up at the front of stage... but Jeff's vocals kinda went AWOL in the mix. Couldn't hear him at all by the end of the show. But when John stepped up, we could hear him clearly. Did anyone else further back have any difficulty hearing the vocals?
ray
Also... Nels was fairly low in the mix as well, didn't quite cut through as last time. The sound was incredible last year... but I was further back last time (behind the divider), as opposed to this time, where I was 3 rows from the front. Maybe that's the only reason it sounded like that? Did anyone else notice these problems with the mix?
Carla
I was right up front too (against the barrier) and didn't notice any problems with the sound. I could hear Jeff just fine. I loved the show. I was so excited they opened with Sunken Treasure, because I'd been hoping to hear that one. Other highlights for me were Pot Kettle Black, Jesus Etc., It's Just That Simple and Monday. I had such a great time but I think it being a Tuesday night affected it somewhat. Last year it was a Saturday and the crowd seemed much more into it. Maybe it was just me though, because my sister didn't notice that.
beniking
odd concert because the encores were very disappointing for me faux-Stones straight as an arrow 'rockers' aren't a patch on Future Age > Spiders or ... hell i dunno, Lonely 1, Pieholden, Wishful Thinking (anything but I Got You, sorry) I think the encore is exactly to the tee what we got for an encore in New Haven. Though, I've got to disagree with you, the Being There finale in that order rocks, and in my opinion there is absolutely nothing wrong with Wilco rocking.
ray
I think the encore was just what we needed, because that's the side of Wilco that we've had the least of from previous Sydney gigs. I did get the feeling that a lot of the local fans didn't go that far back and were more YHF/AGIB oriented folks, and that's what previous gigs have tended to more. But would you really want the same gig over and over again? That's not Wilco. "It's Just that Simple" was a highlight for me... I just didn't expect it. Have they been doing that more often these days or was this a real rarity? When John stepped up, I thought there might actually be a new number for him to sing (or he would sing an Autumn Defense tune) and started pondering on whether the next Wilco album was going to have more John... which would be an interesting turn. Carla - were you to the right of stage (Pat's side)? As I noticed people having a grand time over there I think I'll stay away from center stage next time.
PeskyJase
I was joyous when John stepped up to the mic. I was hoping for It's Just that Simple (and requested it too). Overall, a great show with some songs I had not seen them play before.
Fritz
A real treat to have John singing It's Just That Simple. Wonderful stuff. Other highlights: Remember The Mountain BedPot Kettle Black and the Sunken Treasure opening was sublime.

froggie
> Something like that more info please! i need to get my words together for next week as for the sound, i was right up at the rail last year there and the sound was perfect. much louder than melbourne and the audience vibes were better. lets hope for When you wake up feeling Old down here next week - and something else if i bump in jeff before the show
squagels
Great show!I got Glenn's setlist, with a signed and dated drumstick attached! On the setlist monday was written in texta as opposed to the other songs which were typed, so it was added at some point.

As I noticed people having a grand time over there I think I'll stay away from center stage next time. I was actually on the left side of the stage, almost right in front of Nels. It was the same spot we stood last time and the sound was great, both times. I got the same feeling about some of the crowd too. The reaction to some of the earlier stuff they played was nothing compared to the reaction anything from YHF or AGIB got. It made me a little bit sad, because Being There is probably my favourite Wilco album.

The reaction to some of the earlier stuff they played was nothing compared to the reaction anything from YHF or AGIB got. It made me a little bit sad, because Being There is probably my favourite Wilco album. I hear you. Although I'm no good at picking favourites, if I was really forced to pick one album, it would be Being There. There was a huge roar that came up when they started playing 'Jesus, etc.' -- not that I don't love the song, but I didn't expect that reaction... it was much bigger than any of the other songs I think. It is great to see and hear the love though. We Sydneyians are definitely an appreciative audience, and it shows in the quiet bits. And hey... let's not forget the "well putted" third album
kungfuonion
did anybody get in earlier with love police tickets? or are all the tickets the same?
froggie
There was a huge roar that came up when they started playing 'Jesus, etc.' -- the same thing happened last year at the Enmore... the audience sang every word
