cryptique
For the love of Allah, would Moises Alou just retire?!?!?He's making something like $7.5 million for this year. For that kind of scratch, I'd keep playing as long as they let me.

Winston Legthigh
grumble todd jones grumble grumble Since it's evident that the Tigers lack the relief pitching to get into the post-season, it might be time to make the tough decision and sell off who they can - and I think that might be the Gambler and Pudge. MrRain422
Pudge has been getting reduced time anyway. I really don't know who would be interested in him and his hefty contract at this point. He really doesn't produce nearly as much as he used to. If anyone is getting traded, I would guess it would be Thames or Inge. Or possibly one of the young outfielders (Thomas and Joyce). Duck-Billed Catechist
I kinda think the Tigers have the best shot of any team to challenge the White Sox for the division. I'm not so sure that they're out of it.
MrRain422
Oh, I don't think they're out of it at all. Three weeks ago I did. They've got a lot left in the tank though and over the last month or so have been pretty good. They do need some bullpen help, though if Rodney and Zumaya find their strides they could be okay. I wouldn't mind seeing them make a move for a back of the rotation pitcher or some solid relief help though.

MrRain422
What's the time frame on Porcello's development? Will he see any Sept action? As far as I've heard there aren't any plans to bring him up, but who knows. He's apparently dominating A-ball. Pudge has been better this year than the last 2. He was terrible at the plate last year, and is only slightly better this year (and on pace for pretty much exactly the same OPS+ as in 2006). I will give him credit for taking a few more walks, but he's still not very selective. I'd say that his offense is negligably better this year than last year, and that his defense is similar if not slightly worse this year. He's a million miles from who he was 10 (or even 5) years ago. He is perhaps still valuable in managing young pitchers (I really don't know about this one way or the other but will give him the benefit of the doubt) but he's now probably an above average defensive catcher and average at the plate for his position. There are much worse guys out there, but considering where he is in his career and how much he's getting paid, how much trade value does he really have?
bobbob1313
Yeah. He's not a 10 million dollar player, that's for sure.
MrRain422
He was still a great sign for the Tigers a few years ago, but his value lied as much in legitimizing them as an organization worth playing for as it was his actual on the field skills (though at the time he still had some left in the tank). I love Pudge, but he had all his best years well before he came to Detroit.
bobbob1313
Anyone know if two people can share an MLB.tv account? I have a friend who had to move to Orlando, so he hasn't been able to watch any Marlins games lately, so I figure this might be a good excuse to get MLB.tv without having to pay full price. Duck-Billed Catechist
I bet Orlando is considered in market for the Marlins by mlb.tv. There are ways around the in-market blackout, but they are kind of annoying. But yes, you can share an account (no idea about the legality, but it's easily done).

I can't imagine Orlando being in Market for Miami. it's like an hour from Tampa and 4 hours from Miami. That wouldn't make any sense.
MrRain422
The MLB.tv blackout restrictions are pretty strict though -- there are people who live in states with no team that MLB considers to be in the market of like 5. It's lame. Anyway, I found a Tampa zipcode at random and checked it on the MLB.tv site and it looks as though Tampa isn't in the Marlins market, but I'm actually sort of surpised. This is the blackout map:
bobbob1313
Hmm, It looks like he might be just inside the Tampa market, because the University of Central Florida is on the Western part of Orlando and it looks like the Marlins market just wraps around Orlando. If not, how do you go around getting out of market?
