austrya
I came by that information from personal experience. When you have a large family (or a sort of large family) you tend to socialize both in real life and on the internet with people who also have big families. I'm not saying that everyone with a large family lives like that, but most that I've talked to do, and I've talked to a lot of them...

Are you saying people who have similar lives relate better to each other? Dont get your point, isnt that logical?
fatheadfred
You cant live on most of the land and we shouldnt populate every place we can anyways. What about other living animals and plants? We need to concentrate population to a certain point to create a society. You're numbers dont mean much. hmmm. really? why can't we? can you not have a "society" without cities? living animals and plants? they are everywhere. we call that food. austrya
No, I was replying to nickerson and forgot to quote. I was just saying that I know a lot of people with big families (4+ kids) and most of them are socially responsible.

Gobias Industries
living animals and plants? they are everywhere. we call that food. We are everywhere also, and the animals might start considering us food at some future juncture. We ought to respect them at least a little bit.
fatheadfred
We are everywhere also, and the animals might start considering us food at some future juncture. We ought to respect them at least a little bit. They should consider us as food and us, them, instead of simply running them over with cars and trains and killing them with toxic water and soil. Maybe if we lived among them we could kill them and eat them so as not to waste the nutrients.

austrya
I guess I should add that I'm not talking about inner-city types of big families. I'm talking about the people who live in my area and the people who frequent the message boards that I am on and the blogs that I read. I'm not talking about every single large family. A lot of large families do those things out of necessity. Growing a garden, composting, homesteading, etc because it's cheaper to grow your own veggies and have eggs from your own chickens than it is to go to the grocery store and get them. I have 4 kids and I can tell you that as a family, our carbon footprint is smaller than the average family. The same holds true for my sister in law who has 6 kids. I know a guy who commutes 65 miles one way to work, has one kid, and drives an SUV that gets 11 miles to the gallon. I'm just trying to say, don't blame the problems on the people with big families. I'm not saying anyone here was doing that, I'm just saying.

I am so out there? ok. I appreciate that one, although I think of it more as I desire to learn about different ways of life and some I embrace. So, yeah, I appreciate your acknowledgement of that. MattZ
I think Obama has "won" the last couple of weeks, if there is such a thing, and if such a thing mattered. This McCain offshore drilling idea is ludicous and he looks more and more like a flip-flopper every day. Can the base really support this guy? And on a purely superficial level, the guy just looks old and stifff. Too old and too stiff, methinks. (This is the Election 08 thread, btw)

I'm not saying anyone here was doing that, I'm just saying. Yeah, there is no blame on big families as individuals. There is just an overall population problem. Something to take note of looking into the future. The lesson to be learned is that it doesnt matter how big your family is, it's your the quality time you spend with your family. A family of 4 can be just as rewarding as a family of 7.
bjorn_skurj
here's the thing, kind of founded by your 'p.s.'...maybe it's just me and maybe it's just on here, but i always get this attitude that 'religious folks and right-wingers' have the market cornered on claiming said high ground and *preventing others from going their own way*. i'm not saying all 'religious folks and right-wingers' are innocents, but i will say there is plenty of 'demonization' happening all the way around. you can argue who 'demonizes' more than the other guy, but my point is...'demonizing' someone else because they 'demonized' first and/or more is on par w/ the argument 'but mom, he hit me first!' what is your stance on prayer in school and/or the recent trend of banning the recognition of certain holidays that may have ties to certain faiths? to qualify, i'm okay w/ certain aspects of the seperation of church and state...for example, nobody should be forced to participate in any sort of prayer, holiday celebration or even say the pledge of allegiance. what i don't get, is why these things have to be removed completely versus a choice being given to particpate or not?I too would like to see an end to demonization, in this thread, on this board and in the world. The tendency to demonize isn't linked, really, to any one ideology - it's more of a personality thing, or a cynical choice to push certain buttons to achieve a political aim.
