Big DW
Hi everyone. I'm new to this board..long time Wilco fanatic however. Until recently I never had much of a chance to hear live shows. Couple of weeks ago I listened to 'In A Future Age' w/ Cline 07/25/06 Mandell Hall, I was blown away by not just the performance but by the sound quality as well (I believe it was a broadcast). So, now I'm hooked, and I'd like some advice from the vets about which titles I should be chasing after. Sound quality is pretty important to me. Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers. zebra
Welcome. The Chicago Winter Residency shows in 2008 were all pretty awesome.
froggie
there are lots of shows you can download from here: http://www.owlandbear.com/wilco-archive/ they'll be in FLAC format which can be converted to wave to copy to a CD. all you need is Flacfrontend to do it. lots of Wilco downloads are in this thread (with some tutorials): http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?showtopic=26738
Guest Speed Racer
Sound quality is pretty important to me. If sound quality is important to you, I don't know that I would download the Residency shows. Most of them are FM fidelity or audience recordings. No fault of the tapers, but the place was obviously pretty rowdy and there are a lot of other shows with better quality out there. Also, be sure to check out JHamm's site if you're interested in getting some Wilco DVD's. Regards,Lauren
Analogman
A thread that contains links to other threads that have to do with what you are asking.
isadorah
A thread that contains links to other threads that have to do with what you are asking. there was another thread that dates even further back that has a lot of good shows listed in it. Analogman is much better at the search feature than i am. i remember posting in it about the Charlotte show from last June; i think it is one of the best recordings (sound quality) out there. it is a worthy one to have. Elixir Sue
If you're interested in some Jeff solo shows, there are really great soundboard recordings of 3/4/05 and 3/5/05.
RubenRemus
I apologize if I am asking a stupid question, but, have there been any SBD shows available from dates following the release of SBS?
Analogman
Yes - about 5, all though several of those are AUD-SBD matrix releases.
NightOfJoy
I posted this awhile back........try these shows out for size..... I've mentioned a few times on this board that I strongly prefer the post Bennet, pre Cline era of Wilco. Over the weekend, I listened to three shows that I return to time and again when I'm in the mood for Jeff and his merry band. Their skilled ability to use tension and release coupled with a sometimes more 'sparse' sound along with the neat jams n segueways into the next tune AND Jeff's raw, more simplistic approach to guitar knock me on my back. Plus, these 3 recordings are A++. This is beautiful stuff folks, if you're unfamiliar with these shows, run to get 'em. You wont be disappointed, I promise. 2002-08-31 Wilco Commodore Ballroom Vancouver, BC, Canada 2002-11-02 Wilco Tampa Theatre Tampa, FL 2003-09-04 Wilco McDonald Theatre Eugene, OR

mpolak21
Yeah, once I got all of the 2002-2003 shows I really wanted and got enough of the Ghost tour shows I kind of backed off. I download from time-to-time with the owl and bear, but my days of obsessively going after shows are over. I am with PaulB and Just for Mund, the post-Bennett, pre-Cline shows are my favorites. You can't go wrong with any of the soundboards from that era. With Wilco though there are few "bad" shows, it really comes down to what songs you really like hearing them to play, there's a setlist feature on wilcobase where you can put a few of your favorites in and see if they've all been played at the same show. I started building my collection that way, and got a lot of great stuff. --Mike
froggie
> I am with PaulB and Just for Mund, the post-Bennett, pre-Cline shows are my favorites. same here... although i even prefer the post-bennett, pre jorgensen era from late 2001. the sound was stripped down and they busted out a few oldies from AM at those shows that they hadnt played in a while
