I'm reading a pretty vapid Red Sox book right now but learned that the school I'm taking graduate classes in currently (based out of Mesa, AZ) once had (at the same time) Terry Francona as a coach and "the man who's name shall not be mentioned" (that left Pedro in too long) working together for the short Fall league in 1993.

Now, you may be saying to yourself: "but Lammy, that has absolutely nothing to do with anything."

tAnd o that, I reply: "you're absolutely right."

Thank you, Lammy, for jinxing the last game we have left to salvage this series.

Why?

Because he was part of the 2008 team. You can be called up for one day during the season, and get a ring.

I remember them talking about this a couple of years ago, but I can't remember the involved parties.

Are there guidelines for that (like in the MLBPA agreement) or is that up to each team?

It's completely up to the team. They can award rings to anyone and everyone that they choose to, and they can decide by any method that they want. They could give a ring to a guy who wasn't on the team at all this year if they wanted to.

True. And the teams vote on shares before the playoffs begin, too. It's common to award players who were a part of the team for a chunk of the season. Manny would surely get a share, I'd imagine.

Last year, the Rockies even gave a full share to Mike Coolbaugh's widow/family. He was a minor league base coach for the Rockies who was killed by a line drive to the head earlier in the season.
