lamradio
I'm no armchair moderator, but damn, how many threads are really required to discuss this album? Why don't you start a thread about it.
jakobnicholas
The lyrics of Solitaire. Jeff's a great lyricist, but every so often he REALLY belts one out of the park. Hell is Chrome is probably his last song to make me feel this way. And YES, the ending of Everlasting Everything is tremendous. I wish it'd go on.

Kilgore Trout
Section of Bull Black Nova starting at about 2:26, with John's amazing bassline...The guitar part of that section reminds me of the Simon electronic game from way back in the early eighties.
billydee
After barely two listens I found my self whistling Country Disappeared at work. In fact I had to listen to it again to verify which song it was. Funny how something just gets in your head that way. Methinks that one will be played live quite a bit.
explodo
Pro: Better lyrics. Con: Forced rhymes.
RainDogToo
Methinks that one will be played live quite a bit. Hope so...
WilcoFan
Pleasure: I'm just so happy/pleasantly surprised about this album. I completely didn't expect it to be this good. To use John's quote about SBS, I'm over the moon about this album. Bull Black Nova's riff at :55 and 1:37, etc... The one that makes you pledge allegiance to Tweedy's Wilco.Bull Black Nova's "I'm sorry as a setting sun, this can't be undone."Solitaire - Just a great song. Disappointments - Bull Black Nova could have been like 11 minutes - a la Marquee Moon.
Chris_H_2
negative bits:-Country Disappeared. The whole song. Don't like. Sorry. This
mastershake
i like the entire album, including country disappeared. solitaire is probably my favorite song at the moment. not really much to complain about. i think this album is 1000 times better than SBS. i wonder if they'll release a studio version of one wing complete with the ending they normally give it live... that would be swell because i sorta am left wanting everytime i listen. maybe it'll be a download if you buy the album. mfwahl
01:30 - 01:42 of Country Disappeared "hungry weekend news crew anchormen" --> guitar walk downIs that the Robbie Robertson-ish lick?
mfwahl
I'll have to listen again to find the spot but there is this fuzzed out guitar line in Bull Black Nova that's low in the mix and doesn't last long, but it is perfectly placed.
MattZ
Is that the Robbie Robertson-ish lick? Yes, great call. I think I referred to it as Abbey Road-esque somewhere in these infinite threads. But that's not right. It's Robbie Robertson-ish. Either way, it slays.
curvemyflight
The frantic and breathless way Jeff sings, "I can't calm down, I can't think" in BBN. Also, the "PICK UP!" 's at the end of the song. A call for help? And to whom?
W(TF)
Also, the "PICK UP!" 's at the end of the song. A call for help? And to whom? Someone who can talk him down from the panic attack. (just my guess.. I've had a few of these in my life)

It's Robbie Robertson-ish. Either way, it slays. Yes, damn it. It is like Planet Waves type guitar lick and tone. I love Country Disappeared but was killing myself trying to place that lick and now it has been resolved.
rrnate
I am really happy about the increased keyboard presence. There is no disputing Jeff's now-awesome guitar playing and Nels is a great contribution, but they have two awesome key players that didn't have much to do (in terms of keys at least) on SBS and it really adds a lot. I think there is a very similar lick in that song. Someone who can talk him down from the panic attack. (just my guess.. I've had a few of these in my life)I like this. In that GQ blog, Tweedy compared the sound of the song to someone leaving the phone off the hook.

I didn't get a chance the other night when this finally hit me, but I thought Going Going Gone also, but are we for sure thinking Planet Waves or are we thinking Son Volt covering Going Going Gone? W(TF)
I hear more George Harrison than Robbie on that...guess I'll have to spin that one and hear it again.
Ghost of Electricity
I think this was meant to highlight specific moments in songs, which is different than the other threads.yes, and serve a listening companion- helps us hear things that we might have missed otherwise. Thanks for the tips on Glenn's drumming in Everlasting Everything and One Wing. this is the kind of stuff i was hoping for. And yes, hopefully on formats better than mp3 it will be possible to hear more. more positives: the low level tremolo on the rhythm guitar in Country Disappeared the harmonies at 3:19 in Country Disappeared
MattZ
I hear more George Harrison than Robbie on that...guess I'll have to spin that one and hear it again. Haha, yeah. That's what I thought initially too. At least, Abbey Road, side 2, George Harrison. How about we all just bask in the glory of robbie robertson mixed with george harrison presented by Wilco. I cant believe all the negative comments about this song. It may be my favorite on the album. more positives: the low level tremolo on the rhythm guitar in Country Disappeared the harmonies at 3:19 in Country Disappeared Right on, onan. Let me repeat myself. I can't believe people don't like this song.
MattZ
It's not my style to nitpick or complain, but I do have to admit that the "like Jesus on the cross" lyric makes me wince a bit in I'll Fight. I know that there's a lot of church imagery in the song. And explicit references to choir, hymnal, etc. But "like Jesus on the cross" just feels like a lazy cliche. Stands out like a sore thumb to me. I love the rest of the song, though.
