HeWasNotRed
In lieu of my recent bad rap on this site, I thought I'd start a harmless thread about one of my favorite wilco tunes, "The High Heat". First and foremost, something about this song gives me the chills and makes me wonder, to my knowledge, why does this song get such little recognition and why has it never seen the light of a live show? Your thoughts VC community..
The High Heat
Well, I kinda like it.
HeWasNotRed
haha, judging by your name I'd assume so. I think it's such an amazing song, and I truly do love nearly everything about the Wilco Book bonus CD, especially that particular tune. I would die if I heard Tweedy open up with "she wants to die..." at a show, gahh
Dude
I really love this song, too. There's nothing else in Wilco's catalog that quite has this vibe. Couldn't even describe that vibe if I tried, but "cold, glassy beauty" comes to mind, like an ice sculpture. Mike J's piano lines are quite nice, too.
The High Heat
I'm a total Glen bitch. Love his parts...in the song...well, you know what I mean.
SarahC
I'm a total Glen bitch. Love his parts...in the song...well, you know what I mean. oh my. yeah, this song is very good. it tends to get stuck in my head a lot.
HeWasNotRed
Me too! I'm always walking around singing it. I know what you mean with the vibe as well. It has more Loose Fur vibes than anything I suppose, and Mike's piano lines plus Jeff's vocal melody make this song perfection
Vacant Horizon
is this on the wilco book or the yhf demos? i know, i'm dumb:)
mpolak21
is this on the wilco book or the yhf demos? i know, i'm dumb:) Wilco Book.
The High Heat
Wilco Book.If the cd isn't cracked, of course. You know, this isn't the public pm thread I thought it was going to be. Oh well. This song definitely needs acknowledgement and live play time as well. I'm going to request it for Durham.
HeWasNotRed
Do it, I would love to hear them play it. The drums are hypnotic in addition to all the other deliciousness occurring in it.
lost highway
Yes, it is totally sublime. Did they do a version of this at the residency?
HeWasNotRed
You know what, I am not sure about that. I've searched for live versions to no avail. That wouldn't even suffice unfortunately, I want to hear this song in a live setting with my own two ears. Maybe Wilco will go back into a darker YHF/AGIB phase when writing their next album and begin playing songs like this to inspire them =D. I can dream...
Guest Runaway Jim
I don't see The High Heat listed on the wilcobase at all, so I think that means it's never been played. Sadly, I don't think I've ever heard it. I never bought that Wilco Book. I guess I should grab it sometime.
stagerug
Yes, it is totally sublime. Did they do a version of this at the residency? They did not. They just did the Studio "LP's" if you will, and a couple Yankee out-takes, etc. God, that makes me sound older than I am, but you "catch my drift"... damn...
bourbonbreath
love the tiles being played by glenn at the beginning. between kickin' television, panthers, 'original' hummingbird, unlikely japan, etc. from the soma sessions... the high heat ranks the highest in my opinion. HeWasNotRed
Hell yeah. Panthers, The High Heat and This Is New are my favorites that didn't make the record. I also do prefer the soma version of Hummingbird over the album cut. I actually plan on making a thread called "a ghost was intended" and making my dream ghost tracklist

I actually plan on making a thread called "a ghost was intended" and making my dream ghost tracklist I'll chip in to that thread, I have been playing with those songs on different ipod playlists for years. I have a double and a single album version. This is my personal favorite alt Ghost mix of all-time, dug up from the Via archives.: AGIB (altenate mix) 1.Pure Bug Beauty(wilcobook)2.Handshake Drugs(live)3.Doubt(wilcobook)4.Spiders(kidsmoke)5.Hummingbird (wilcobook)6.Panthers(bonus disc)7.Company In My Back8.The High Heat(wilcobook)9.At Least That's What's You Said10.Barnyard Pimp(wilcobook)11.Wishful Thinking12.Diamond Claw(wilcobook)13.Muzzle of Bees14. High Heat and This Is New would have been OK by me to be on AGIB.
HeWasNotRed
Haha, very nice tracklist. I would still have to keep At Least That's What You Said as my opener I think. It's going to be tough, but I'm gonna try to make my ghost set soon.
