Guest Speed Racer
Helping craft an entire album is the same to you as showing up one day and singing a co-vocal on one short song? We don't know that he "crafted an entire album" - he solo'd on some songs. Who guided him to play what? I mean, we could go over to the Jay F boards and he'd reply within minutes, so if you're curious, go ask. Or to state it another way, Bill Murry made a cameo in Zombie Town. If he had been in the whole movie it would not have been a cameo appearance. Films aren't albums, fyi.
jff
Films aren't albums, fyi. You're too smart to play that game. You know exactly what the point was. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/cameo Main Entry: cam·eo Pronunciation: \ˈka-mē-ˌō\Function: noun Inflected Form(s): plural cam·eosEtymology: Middle English camew, from Middle French camau, kamaheuDate: 15th century1 a : a gem carved in relief; especially : a small piece of sculpture on a stone or shell cut in relief in one layer with another contrasting layer serving as background b : a small medallion with a profiled head in relief2 : a carving or sculpture made in the manner of a cameo3 : a usually brief literary or filmic piece that brings into delicate or sharp relief the character of a person, place, or event4 : a small theatrical role usually performed by a well-known actor and often limited to a single scene; broadly : a brief appearance or role
Guest Speed Racer
You're too smart to play that game. You know exactly what the point was. I do, but I disagree that you can compare them. Because films aren't albums. In my opinion, Brian Hennemen's appearance on A.M. was a guest appearance - one of a musician well known to their audience at the time. His performance boosted the album quality, but did not define its sound. Feist's appearance was a guest appearance - one of a musician well known to Wilco's audience at the time. Her performance improved a song, but did not define its sound.

Guest Speed Racer
Oh, I never asked: would you have prefered that Wilco use a vocalist other than Feist, use no female on the song, or omit the song from the album entirely?

Guest Speed Racer
Only if he also provided the lead vocal for Deeper Down. Actually, I would definitely pay to hear a Bill Murray-vocal version of that song.

No, Feist is perfectly fine on that song. I think they should use whoever they want to use. I don't have any preference in that regard.
choo-choo-charlie
I've just gotta say that I'm amazed at where this thread/conversation has gone. This is why I spend time here.

Well, there's arguing because you believe in something, and then just arguing because you have a rep for doing so on the Wilco board. You fell victim to the latter. I think you made some fine points. porkdog324
Hmmm... I think a lot of Wilco fans are too sophisticated for Wilco
The High Heat
Hmmm... I think a lot of Wilco fans are too sophisticated for Wilco And they are the ones smart enough to stay off this board.
froggie
I've never felt a soporofic quality to a song is a detractor. I love how calming some songs Tweedy created are. I often use Wilco tunes to slow my heartbeat and fall dead asleep. agreed... i can listen to One by One all night without falling asleep! - love it!

Sir Stewart
Bill Murray should've sung lead on "Wilco The Song".
