cracked & hooked
We will know tonight, Jazz Fest lineup announced at midnight tonight. Wilco second weekend? That would be simply awesome! My favorite band in my favorite place in the world? Yeah you rite!
Hixter
The lineup has been posted. Looks like Wilco play Thursday, May 5. http://lineup.nojazzfest.com/
cracked & hooked
Wilco and Lucinda and Willie and Wyclef all in my favorite city? I must find a way. Unfortunately (and fortunately) I had planned on being there earlier in April for rebuilding work. And then there's Solid Sound.... Too much Wilco and not enough scratch. suites
Maybe they will play some dates around this......Late April Early may is good time to tour the southeast, with at least 2 Florida dates. I was just thinking that I have been crying for shows in Florida for as long as this board has been up (the days when Tweedy Girl was the #1 poster). Overall I think the band has been great to the Southeast...lets hope it continues.
Doug C
I also believe that this date will bode well for the southeast as similar area festival dates have done. I love NOLA but have never been to Jazz Fest. Would I be correct in assuming that the sets are abbreviated, meaning shorter than usual?

I love NOLA but have never been to Jazz Fest. Would I be correct in assuming that the sets are abbreviated, meaning shorter than usual? Ye. The sets are usually an hour to a hour and a half long. Last time Wilco played Jazz Fest in 2009, they squeezed about 18 or 19 songs in if I remember correctly. They blew through the set with little interruption. They were awesome though and tons of people showed up for the set.' BTW, Thursday is absolutely the best Jazz Fest day. Much less crowded than weekends and mostly a local crowd. sonicshoulder
I'm not a jazz fan so this line-up for this jazz festival looks absolutely great. Nothin says jazz like Wilco,Arcade Fire,Bon Jovi,Jimmy Buffet,...need I go on. I love the line-up but it might be time to rename this event.

Actually, there about five or six stages, plus a gospel tent and other forums. I would say at least half of the acts are jazz/local. It has been getting more indie lately, which is not a bad thing. But if you wanted to see just jazz and New Orleans music, you could go all five days and not see one indie or popular act. Just sayin'
Guest Jules
If New Orleans wasn't such a shithole, I might consider this.

It is an unreal line-up, but if I just read it with no title I would be thinking Bonnaroo has added a jazz stage.
ViaNewOrleans
If New Orleans wasn't such a shithole, I might consider this. Jules. What shithole do you live in?
Guest Jules
Well it doesn't smell and have garbage in the streets everywhere. For one.
Magnetized
Well it doesn't smell and have garbage in the streets everywhere. For one. What a heinous comment. I'm sure New Orleans is breathing a great sigh of relief that they won't have you as a visitor.
Guest Jules
Why is it heinous? It's been like that forever.
Guest Hollinger.
Jules is right, New Orleans is fucking awful.
ViaNewOrleans
Why is it heinous? It's been like that forever. Glass houses, Jules. Glass houses . . . . . When's the last time you were in New Orleans or are you going off of 'news reports?" If by shithole you mean too many world class restaurants to mention, too much culture and history to mention here, beautiful parks, museums, eclectic neighborhoods, excellent music venues, the Saints, festivals, oyster and catfish po-boys, and friendly people, then I am with you. Jules is right, New Orleans is fucking awful. Another D-bag comment. Welcome to the discussion.
Guest Jules
No, by "shithole" I am referring to the general overall stench and apparent lack of efficient refuse pickup. I haven't been there since Katrina, though, so maybe it's better now.
ViaNewOrleans
If you are referring to the French Quarter Funk, then yes, a bunch of tourists puking all of over the place does tend to stink up the joint. That happens. But the new waste company hired to clean the Quarter sprays a nice lemony fresh scent on the streets every day so come on down and get a whiff. It's not as bad. Also, it appears by your comments that you restricted your visit to the Quarter. Why don't you come down and check out Uptown, Magazine St., Lakeview, the Marigny, and many other cool parts of the city. We are not just the French Quarter.

WishfulThinking13
If New Orleans wasn't such a shithole, I might consider this. It is one of the few great cities left. You obviously just went to Bourbon Street. Get your facts right before you insult my home.
Sandoz
New Orleans is one of the best cities in the universe. The people, the food, the culture, the musicians, the energy, the art. There is such rich history (and pride) behind it all. Sometimes I wish I lived there, I've always wished I grew up there. I am astounded that anyone could call New Orleans a shithole. The Wilco set at the 2009 Jass Fest was awesome. Not to mention (and probably contributing to the awesomeness): the preceding act was Galactic. But the gospel tent is seriously mind-blowing and worth the trip all on it's own. Enjoyed with a cold abita and crawfish etoufee, of course.
