The Inside of Outside
Love that photo, tagvestibule. You manage to get serious clarity in your shots; I am impressed. I could care less about the watermark. The photo is excellent.
IrishMickyWard
>>> i did not yet completely read the replies to my photo rant, but judging by the length of the subsequent posts i probably should not post after drinking beer (or several beers) ... - i did not mean to make a personal attack - not my intention. i am certain the photographers are all good people. i apologize. - i have also never read pre-fix magazine so i should not have commented on it's validity as a news outlet. sorry about that.- i also know that taking good photos requires more than nice gear - skill, dedication, a good eye, etc... (all categories which i am lacking)- sorry to swear - my mom would not be proud- calling anybody a 'yahoo' is usually uncalled for. again sorry.- thank you for explaining the function of the watermark. i prefer to view photos without them, but now understand why they are needed. i am pretty sure i will never like the sound of camera shutters firing away during the quiet moments at the beginning of a Jeff solo show (especially during the almost silent parts of a song like Sunken Treasure), but i realize the need for photos. and of course this only holds true for Jeff solo - when the full band plays this has never been an issue. again sorry for the 'harsh' nature of the post. beer & vicodin (bad back) seem to make me a mean spirited person- especially when i am sitting behind a computer late at night. i think it's time to go back to simply 'lurking' here on VC since i mainly visit this site to check setlists. and with the advent of the new blog "I Got Your Setlist Right Here..." i see fewer trips to VC in the future - thus i will not be able to cause any further acrimony. signing out - going silent on all fronts ... [[[[[ and by the way - that is a pretty killer photo ( "nailed it" ) ]]]]]

choo-choo-charlie
You can stream or download the show here: http://www.visiblevoice.net/new-posts/jeff-tweedy-live-at-the-state-theater-portland-me-32611.html Thanks for sharing, this is a great recording. Tweedy has changed his picking pattern on "Black Eye" a bit -- makes it a little more bouncy.

tinnitus photography
as a fellow photographer, i'll toss my thoughts into the ring... lovely photo, Joshua. the debate about watermarks will rage endlessly, and ultimately it's the creator who holds the decision. i have recently changed my position, from using nothing to now what really just constitutes a logo/brand that occupies a corner. of course, that is susceptible to cropping out, but i guess i am ok w/ the balance of asserting copyright but not tampering too much w/ the image. everyone makes their own decisions. josh, i am surprised to hear that NBC used a photo and didn't compensate you...what are the details around that? seems like at least a DMCA notice would work for online uses. for an acoustic show, it's a really delicate balance to get the shots one needs (and if you are on assignment, your editor doesn't care about what other photos might be taken, just the ones you are going to deliver), and not be intrusive physically. i always err on the side of discreetness, and the venues and artists and patrons respect that. sounds like Joshua takes a similar path. if it really bothers the artist, they can always stick the photographers at the back of the building, like Neil Young does. i also got a chuckle out the 'glorified blog' comment...like Joshua, i also shoot for Prefix, and have been for some time. in the e-World that we live in, electronic content delivery is more and more important as opposed to print media. it's more immediate, and more wide-ranging. but people still stick to the old views, and 'brand name' plays a part in perception. would it surprise you to learn that Prefixmag.com gets roughly 50% more unique visitors than Spin.com does? but since Spin has been a print mag for the last 2-3 decades, it's got a higher profile. but a lot of people don't know that, and i've seen very small publications get approved for shows i don't. i am occasionally baffled by publicists' decisions at times, but that's for another post...
