Wilco Primer

Recommended Posts

Hello - I'm taking a Wilco first timer to a show next month and wanted to get him some MP3's of what they may play. I haven't been to a show in a few years, what do they play most these days?

I was thinking at least:

Jesus Etc

Trying to Break...

Via Chicago

Handshake Drugs

What are some other common ones? I don't really know much off Wilco(The Album) either other than bull black nova, I think I remember seeing that on a few set lists recently.

Sorry if this is a common question, thanks for the help!

I'm the one that loves you, good one.. I was looking at some of the "after the show" setlists earlier but those sound stage shows kinda run the gambit. Seems like Impossible Germany is another good bet. Maybe I'll just give him a copy of Kicking Television and call it a day.

That's a safe bet: a setlist heavy on YHF and AGIB tunes, with some regulars from SBS (Impossible Germany, Walken, Hate it Here) and W(TA) (Bull Black Nova, You Never Know, One Wing).

*Maybe a song or two from Summerteeth (Shot in the Arm, Via Chicago)

*Maybe an encore cherry picking rockers from A.M. and Being There (Casino Queen, Box Full of Letters Outtasite, I Got You, etc.)

*Maybe some new ones.

I guess its a good thing for us that its kinda hard to nail down an expected setlist.. Thanks for the w(ta) suggestions, I'll add those to the list. "Easy rockers" are always good at piquing interest too.. :) Thanks all!

Analogman's suggestion is best -- check the 'After the Show' thread. That's the best way to compare recent setlists.

I tried to get my sister into Wilco a few years ago by having her listen to Kicking Television. Midway through the "nothings" she turned and asked if my CD was broken. Some people just don't get it.

Haha, something similar happened to me once. I was working in a kitchen in a [chain] restaurant and had KT on the stereo in the back. One of the servers came back and popped open the CD player and said "GOD, DIDN'T YOU GUYS NOTICE THE CD WAS SKIPPING FOR A WHOLE MINUTE?!!?!?!?!?"

I guess they are too young to have heard Steppenwolf's live version of "Monster". Probably not a fair comparison to "Misunderstood", but it was the first time I ever heard a band do something like this.
